Reasons for war with Persians:

● The Persian King insulted an envoy sent by the Holy prophet (SAW) and tore up the
letter given to him. (this was bad cuz there was a known law everywhere to not treat
an envoy with disrespect and stuff and the King did just that.)
● They helped the enemy of Islam during the rebellion of bahrain
● Arab tribes living on the border of iraq helped their relatives in Arabia rise up against
islam
● Persians did not allow Muslims to trade with them. Arabia is a barren land and
needed water from euphrates and stuff so there was an economical reason to wage
war against them

Battle of Namarraq:
● The Muslims captured the kingdom of Hira during the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr
and the persians did not like that so the king tried to take back control of the area by
sending Rustam (remember his name he’s gonna come up later)
● Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed had already left for syria so Hazrat Musana was left alone
on the Persian front
● Luckily Hazrat Umar (R.A) sent and army under Hazrat Abu Ubaid to reinforce Hazrat
Musana
● The Muslims won this battle

Battle of Jasr / Battle of the Bridge:

● The Persians couldn’t accept defeat and hence decided to wage war against the
Muslims AGAIN (someone wasn’t paying attention during history lessons)
● This time they were under the command of BaHman
● Between the two armies was euphrates and the Muslims leaders advised against
crossing the river, and said that it would be better to stay on the bank of the river
● However, the Muslim commander, Hazrat Abu Ubaid, went against this advice and
ordered a bridge of boats to be made an they crossed over
● This was a HUGE mistake as the ground was uneven, and in front of them were
WAR ELEPHANTS( something which was new to everyone fighting there ( even the
horses )) AND ON TOP OF THEM WERE PERSIAN SOLDIERS WITH BOWS AND
ARROWS (this causes confusion)
● The horses of the Muslims got scared cuz they have never seen elephants before
● The Muslims get off their horses and start cutting the ropes of the “howdah” which the
Persian soldiers were sitting on to bring them down and kill them.
● THIS WAS WHEN THE ELEPHANTS STARTED TRAMPLING ON THE SOLDIERS
● While this was happening a white elephant knocked Hazrat Abu Ubaidah down and
trampled on him, after while his brother took the standard and fought, but soon he
died too.
● A LOTT of Muslim commanders died this battle and Hazrat musana ordered the
Muslim army to retreat using the…. THE BROKEN BRIDGE?? HOW DID THAT
HAPPEN??
● A man from Banu Saqif had broken it so it had to be rebuilt
● Hazrat Musana ordered the rebuilding of the bridge and held the enemy back and
was the last to cross
● Muslims lost 6,000 soldiers in this battle.
