Reflection Paper

Kambas ng Lipunan is not just an ordinary painting. It is inspired by the last

supper but instead of Jesus eating with the apostles he painted hungry kids, covered
with dirt and kids that are affected by poverty. Moreover, his version of the last suffer
painting, the children that he painted are not fictional children but real children that
inspire him to do such an art. There kids who is sharing a meal with Jesus are children
who have been neglected by our society. Here, I recognize the different aspect of life
specially the struggles of poor young street children in order to survive.

There are twelve children featured in the painting and with every kid there is a
lesson for everyone to hear and understand. Nene is a generous kid regardless of her
status in life she still manage to give even though she has nothing to herself. Joyce as
teen mom faced adulthood early with her kind of living. Tina the quite one, she has a lot
of storms in her life that is not the best for a kid like him. Eton has the most innocent
mind with the way he interpreted the painting. Onse, he is the shy kid because of the
work of his parents. He is being bullied by other kids. Michaele the garbage collector,
she’s food comes from the garbage that he collects. Podoy lives under the bridge and
his family doesn’t receive enough support from the government. Jun and Roselle are
siblings that even though they are poor their family is happy and has strong faith in God.
The last kid in the painting was inspired from the photo taken by Kevin Carter a photo of
a malnourished kid from Africa due to poverty.

The painting that he paints is influenced by what he sees around his

environment. He explains and expressed in his paintings the society or experience of a
life of poverty. Painting is not only a picture that we stare, paintings or art also have
meanings and message that they are trying to tell. And lessons for people art makes us
aware of the things around us. Art also help us find ourselves, we may lost sometimes
but by the help of art we can find ourselves. Art allows us to process our experiences.
Art help us to express and to understand the world around. The artwork was an eye-
opener to all of us, it made us realized to be sensitive enough to our society and let us
see how the world really is. The artwork aims to give awareness of people regarding the
undying problem that out country is facing.

Joey Velasco wanted us to show that even though how hard life gets into we
should always continue to keep fighting. Help thos who are in need and do not act blind
in the society we lived. We have all the things that can help us for a better life but we do
not have the lesson this kids in the painting have. Always be kind and be contented in
what we have
