PRESENTATION OUTLINE
INTRODUCTION
1. Greeting:
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to group 3’s presentation. For those of who
don’t know me already, my name is Thuy Hien and I’m the leader of our group.
2. Introducing the group’s members:
There are six members in group 3 including Bich Diep, Huong Dao, Thu Ha, Thanh
Chuc, Hong Han and me, Thuy Hien.
3. Introducing the group’s topic:
So you or may not figured out our topic today. During our presentation this afternoon,
group 3 will provide you with information on the importance of languages in the
modern technology world.
4. Outlining the presentation:
In the following section, I’m going to show you the definition of languages as well as
two types of communication. Then, we will share with you the main part of our
presentation which is the role of languages in the modern technology world. And by the
end of the presentation, we will inform you of how to improve your language skills to
communicate effectively.
BODY/ DEVELOPMENT
1. Language (Presented by Thúy Hiền)
a. Language Definition: the principal method of human communication, consisting
of words used in a structured and conventional way and conveyed by speech,
writing, or gesture.
b. Verbal Communication – Verbal Characteristic of Language:
 Verbal communication is an all-encompassing term for communication
involving words — whether they're spoken, written or signed.
 In general, verbal communication refers to our use of words general,
verbal communication refers to our use of words.
Eg: The conversations we have with our coworker at lunch, the morning
news or the sports page we read in the morning, the text message you
send to your spouse telling him to pick up some potatoes.

c. Non-verbal Communication – Non-verbal Characteristic of Language:
 Non-verbal communication includes body language, such as gestures,
facial expressions, eye contact, posture, touch, or the sound of our voice,
including pitch, tone and volume are also forms of non-verbal
communication.
 Sign language is not body language.
 In general, non-verbal communication refers to communication that
occurs through means other than words.
Eg: Arms crossed over chest (A gesture indicating defensiveness or
stress), making eye contact (An indication you're paying attention), a firm
handshake or a warm hug is also body language.
2. The role of languages in the modern technology world (Presented by Bich Diep,
Huong Dao, Thu Ha, Thanh Chuc)
a. The importance of words – verbal communication:
 Spoken Communication (Oral communication)
o Providing clarity.
o Increasing motivation.
o Helping save time.
 Written Communication
o Providing records, reference, etc., on which important decision.
o Promoting consistency in decisions with clear evidence and legal
effect.
o Making for accuracy and dependability.
o Responsibility can be easily assigned.
 Signed Communication
o Important for deaf people.
o Enhancing the skills to listen with your eyes.
o Helpful for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
o Having a private conversation in a public place
o Advantages over spoker/written language.

b. The importance of body languages – non-verbal communication:
 Adding values to the verbal messages.
 Intercultural Friction.
 Effects on Relationships.
 Managing Conversation.
3. How to improve your language skills or communication skills (Presented by Hong
Han)
a. Words – Verbal Communication
 Think before speaking/writing (Consider your message).
 Be clear and concise.
 Vary your vocal tone.
 Choose your written words carefully.
 Be an active listener.
 Think about the perspective of your audience.
b. Body languages – Non-verbal communication
 Pay more attention to non-verbal signals.
 Focus on voice tone.
 Use better eye contact
 Practicing.
CONCLUSION
1. Reviewing all main points
And that brings us to the end of the presentation. To quickly recap, I’d like you to
remember these key points. First, the definition of language and its two characteristics.
Second, the role of language in this modern technology world. Third, how we improve
our language skills and communicate better. And lastly, is languages important in our
life? The answer is yes. Communication plays a vital role in human life, especially in
this modern technology society. It helps facilitate the exchange of information and
knowledge, and develop relationships with others. Therefore, the importance of
languages in our day-to-day life cannot be underestimated.
