Football Gnome.
I crochet Gnome in continuous spiral rounds with crochet hook 2.0mm. and Maroon, Sky Blue,
Stone, Lime, White DK Acrylic Yarns (300m. in 100g.) and Black 4ply
Acrylic Yarn (440m. in 100g.) and hook 1.75mm., Black Pearl Cotton
N8.
The Yarns in this pattern are just a suggestion. You can use your
favourite colours and Yarn. That’s why I am usually don’t indicate man-
ufacturers. Please be aware not to mix different manufacturers. It is im-
portant to compare the strength and length of the used Yarn. Using
Yarn from a few manufacturers for one figure can lead to wrong propor-
tions.
- Use a stitch marker to mark the end or if you prefer the beginning of
each round.
- Make invisible decreases when using two front loops of st. for it.
- Work all the project using both loops of the stitch unless otherwise
noted.
- Some pictures may be presented with different colour of the Yarn or
are from my other projects.

R 6.(1 sc., 1 dec) x 6. (12)
R 7. (1 dec.) x 6. (6) Stuff the nose, do not overstuff it.
Fasten off and cut the yarn do not close the hole, leave long end for sewing
to the body.

Now add some plastic pellets ( rice/small stones/glass pebbles) to add more weight to the toy. Stuff
the body firmly from centre to sides of the body, make sure you stuff well “head”.
R 32. (2 sc., 1 dec) x 6. (18)
R 33. (1 sc., 1 dec) x 6. (12) add final stuffing.
R 34. (1 dec.) x 6. (6). Cut off yarn and close the hole with a tapestry needle, hide the end.
Now we will make edge on bottom of the gnome body and on cook white top.
For bottom:
Keep the gnome body upside down. We will use FLO of R6., attach Maroon Yarn to random loop
and and crochet not too tight 1sc. in each front loop till end of the round and join the circle invisibly.
For Top:
Use Maroon long tail and crochet loosely on FLO of R16. 1 sc. in each loop till end of round and join
the circle invisibly.
Pull the loop on your hook to draw cut yarn tail up to the top. Now we are going to join it seamlessly
to the rest of the round. To do this, skip the next st., and insert your hook, going from front to back,
under both loops of the following stitch. Draw the yarn through to the back.
Now go back to your final stitch that has the yarn tail emerging from the middle of it. Insert your
hook down into this st., pull on the yarn tail to draw it smaller until the loop matches the size of all
the loops in top round of your piece.
Weave the yarn tail through the back of several st. of your piece and trim the remaining yarn tail.

Assembly.
— sew on the nose. Try on the hat first, it will help to find proper position of the nose.
— make the beard.
Method 1.The beard can be made by tying strips (20-25 strips) of Yarn to stitches all around the
nose as marked on pic. with pins. Each stop is approx. 18-20cm. in length, if you make them too
short will be very difficult to attach it to the toy and after you brush it they can be too short.
Attach the strips very close around the nose, separate each strip on strands and brush it with metal
pet brush make the beard shape as you like. Please see the pic. how to attach the strips from my oth-
er projects.
Method 2. Cut 20-22 strips of Yarn each approx. 20-25cm. in length, make a knot in a
middle, separate each strip on strands, brush it with pet brush, or leave as strips of yarn.
Attach it above the nose, glue on the beard around nose and on the chest. Make the
beard shape as you like, trim it where needed.
After you brushed strands you can use steam iron or hair straightener to make the
yarn straight (pic.). Hairspray will help to keep the beard in shape.
Method 1.
Method 2.

—put the hat on the gnome, add stuffing (from centre to sides) inside the hat. Stitch or glue on the
hat to the head.
