Đối với Pre-modifiers:

Pre-modifiers của noun phrases có thể bao gồm:
- Determiner (mạo từ): Those houses are very expensive.
- Quantifier (hay là ‘adverbs of quantities/degrees’ - trạng từ định lượng): I've lived in a lot of houses.
- Number (số): My brother owns two houses.
- Adjective (tính từ): I love old houses.

Đối với Post-modifier:

Postmodifiers của noun phrases có thể bao gồm:
● Prepositional phrases (cụm giới từ), ví dụ:
○ a man with a gun
○ the boy in the blue shirt
○ the house on the corner
● -ing phrases (động từ thêm -ing, hay là mệnh đề quan hệ giản lược), ví dụ:
○ the man standing over there
○ the boy talking to Angela
● relative clauses (mệnh đề quan hệ), ví dụ:
○ the man we met yesterday
○ the house that Jack built
○ the woman who discovered radium
○ an eight-year-old boy who attempted to rob a sweet shop
● Mệnh đề chứa that, ví dụ:
○ He's still very fit, in spite of the fact that he's over eighty.
○ She got the idea that people didn't like her.
○ There was a suggestion that the children should be sent home.
● Các động từ nguyên thể có to, ví dụ:
○ I've got no decent shoes to wear.
● Các động từ nguyên thể có to thường đi sau đại từ không xác định (indefinite pronouns) và trạng từ
(adverbs), ví dụ:
○ You should take something to read.
○ I need somewhere to sleep.
 ● Trong câu có thể có nhiều hơn 1 post-modifier, ví dụ:
