3. CHAPTER 1 – Introduction

Adventure tour guide is specialized type of tour guide position that is often employed as a
guide for more organized excursions and outing as a part of a tour package. Adventure
tour is features physically active, exotic and sometimes demanding experiences. The
packages may include hotel accommodations, a round trip flight, three meals a day, a
climb up the mountain. Adventure tourism in new trend in tourism industry. Adventure
tourism is very popular among young age tourists.

Tour guide has many responsibilities. There are,

 Undertaking research and planning tour

 Offering and giving presentation
 Giving safety adventure travel
 Offering sightseeing advice
 Organizing and leading excursions
 Problem solving
 Translating and interpreting
 Transporting and accompanying tourist

 Maleesha de Silva is an adventure travel guide. She live in Sri Lanka. She is
working since 2 year in jet wing group and also done travel, tourism and
hospitality management degree in Sri Lanka technological campus.

She is good team leader and able to lead of group and good communicator.
She can speak Japanese, French, German and English. She is mostly like travel to
Paris, German, japan these countries. She mostly like travel to another countries.
She is thinking meeting peoples is the best gift we can have in our lifetime, so she
always enjoy meeting someone new.

6. CHAPTER 2 – SIX ELEMENT OF TRAVEL GEOGRPHY

Tourism geography is the knowledge of countries, regions, major cities, gateways,

famous icons, monuments, building structures, and geographical features such as rivers,
seas, mountains, deserts and time zones. That tourism geography is very important for
tourism sector. In that tourism geography connect with the tour guide job responsibilities.
Example location is very importance for tour guide location is element of tourism
geography therefor tourism geography is very importance to tour guide. Under the six
element explain by that.

 a. Physical location and characteristics

First one element is physical location and characteristics. In that physical location and
characteristics depend on destination as well as the different landmark that are located
there such as mountains, lake. The things that around the destination is important as well
such as any volcanoes.in the tour guide one of his responsibility is undertaking research
and planning tour. I am an adventure tour guide there for I am very importance physical
location and characteristics because I want research adventure places and planning tour.
Most foreign coming Sri Lanka for adventure tour and they most like climb mountain
there for I planned tour very important by consider physical location and characteristics.
We can’t do adventure tour in flat ground and we want select it mountain or adventure
place if we selected adventure place we want consider about that place characteristics.
Accessibility about that place and safety. Before planning we should research about that
things and after we should plane our tour.
According to my idea when tour guide planning tour physical location and
characteristics is very importance. Tourism geography is conceded with tour guide
responsibilities.

 b. Weather and Climate
Next element is weather and climate. When I planning tour I should consider about
whether and clime because weather is also important to know so that people are of
natural disasters that could occur at any moment. Climate is important for tourists to
know about because they need to know the best time to visit destination. An adventure
tour is very importance weather because they do adventure activities the weather could
also affect tourist activities. When tourist travel they consider climatic zone. The earth
has three main climatic zone there are, tropical, temperate and polar. Sri Lanka has in
tropical zone there for tourists come in Sri Lanka but tourists not travel in polar zone.
Tour guide offering to tourist sightseen advice I should gave tourist about that place
weather and climate there for tour guide very importance weather and climate. In Sri
Lanka has summer, winter and dry season but in one day we can get this three seasons
experience in sri lanka there for more tourists attraction in sri lanka.

There for weather and climate is very importance when

planning tour and offering to tourist sightseen advice.

 C. History

Next element is history. Tourist interest about that their destination place history therefor
history important events that have happened in this destination is important because
tourist should feel like they are. Tour guide should be knowledge about destination place
history. If tour guide haven’t knowledge about that place history he can’t give good
translate to tourist about that place. Informing tourists about the famous people who once
were at the destination could attract tourist. Tourists should also know how place has
changed over time. Tourist like anytime renew their knowledge there for tour guide is
very importance element is history.

D. Culture
Next importance element is culture. Culture of a destination are things such as, the race
of the people, traditional food, the rituals, and language and the past descendants that
were once there. In the Sri Lanka that culture is very important because Sri Lanka has
traditional culture. Under the offering sightseen advice reponsilities tour guide should
aware about culture of that place. This is all important for tourists to know so that they
can be more open – minded to the culture in the destinations. There for culture is very
importance for tour guide’s job.

E. Reason people travel to a destination
Tourist has many reasons travel to destination. Some tourist like renew their knowledge.
The reasons tourists travel to any destination in general so that they can learn new things
and get the idea of other culture. Adventure tourist like doing adventure activity. They
like learn new something and get risk every time. There for adventure tourist guide
consider when planning tour include some new adventure activity and tour guide able to
identify what is an adventure tourist reason travel to a destination. Adventure tourists like
try some new foods when tour guide organizing tour he can include that items in tour.
People get informed about rituals and food. Reason people travel to destination is very
important for tour guide because when tour guide organizing or planning tour he should
know what is the reason adventure people travel to a destination there for tour guide is
very importance reason people travel to a destination.

F. Destination meets travel needs
The destination makes people more open – minded and gives people opportunity for new
experiences. An adventure tourist like anytime get new experience. Tour guide can gives
them new transporting experience and gives new food experience. Tour guide can give
special offers and availability. The tour guide should be preparing tourist satisfaction.
Educational needs, accommodations, camping, hiking and entertainment things are very
important travel needs. So destination meets travel needs very importance for an
adventure travel guide.

5. CONCLUSION
On the basic of the findings, who is an adventure tour guide and find what is the
adventure tours and responsibilities of tour guide. Tour guide has many responsibilities
and write short description about maleesha she is an adventure tour guide and Find what
the tourism geography and how is use in tourism sector. And what the tourism geography
elements are.

For this study, it can be concluded that identify tourism geography element and
how use it tourism sector and how connected that element with tour guide job’s
responsibilities. That element are most important for tour guide.
