Guide as a whole means a person who has the duty to
lead a tour. During the tour, they must explain, describe, give information about places, people that tourists should know, as well as taking care of various facilities for tourists. To allow tourists to get comfortable in traveling. The guide is the person closest to the tourists. It can make or break the image of a nation. Therefore, the government has issued the Tourism Business and Guide Act B.E. 1992 as the first edition, currently cancelled. and issued the latest Tourism Business and Guide Act B.E. 2551 There are regulations for those who will engage in the profession of tour guides to follow and must have a tour guide license and always wear a tour guide card during working hours. Guides are representatives of Thailand and are important to the country in many ways. Guides are therefore persons who are useful in helping to promote and support the tourism industry to continue to grow.
Guides are divided into 2 categories: general guides refer
to guides who have extensive knowledge of tourism in all fields for bringing tourists to places in Thai or foreign languages. And a specific guide means a bundle of guides who have knowledge of specific areas of tourism such as history, ancient and tourism, etc., which is to educate tourists who are interested in that field as tourists want. The characteristics of tour guides consist of 4 aspects:
1) knowledge of tour guides
2) tour guide abilities
3) tour guide qualifications
4) tour guide ethics
For the etiquette and personality of tour guides, tour
guides need to be present, especially in terms of internal and external personality. That is to say, the external personality must always be tidy and clean regularly, such as taking care of the body, dressing, etiquette, speech, etc. As for the internal personality, it must be practiced on a regular basis, that is, it must be a person who sees the world. In a positive way, have a good attitude towards their own profession and tourists, and must know how to take care of them. As for the art of speaking, the tour guide must pay a lot of attention, especially in building human relations, the technique of speaking, the art of speaking in the tour guide, the technique of speaking on the car, and the art of making an impression. in guide work The last thing is about the ethics of the tour guide. This is important because it means taking pride in the profession of a guide and it should be borne in mind to avoid tarnishing and giving tourists the impression that a guide has a professional code of ethics. The important roles of tour guides that tour guides should perform are:
1) The duty of receiving tourists (Transfer - in) is to pick
up tourists from the entry point of the city or province.
2) The duty of touring (Touring) is taking tourists to travel
to different places.
3) The duty of exporting tourists (Transfer - out) is taking
tourists from their accommodation to the airport, port, railway station.
Therefore, the tour guide must perform such duties to be
accurate and in accordance with the sequence of steps performed according to the needs of tourists. For tourists to be satisfied, impressed, and want to come back again. For the duties of a tour leader, the tour leader must be knowledgeable. Possesses the ability to use words, good personality, high responsibility, sincerity and determination in work. In addition, the difference between a tour guide and a tour leader is that the tour guide is the one who lectures, educates and answers questions to the tourists, while the tour leader is responsible for planning, solving problems, coordinating and conducting the trip. It was smooth on schedule from the first step of the tour until the completion of the trip in the most efficient and successful way possible.
The practice of bringing domestic tourists to travel in the
country (Domestic Tour)
This operation, although not very worried because
traveling in their own country and most of them only welcome Thai tourists. However, it should be important to perform duties at all times and do your best whether before the tour, during the tour, or after the tour. Because that means creating an impression throughout the tour and when the tourists are impressed, they will return to use the service again. If we provide service to tourists willingly, we will receive praise and build a reputation for ourselves and the company as well.
The practice of bringing domestic tourists to travel
abroad (Outbound Tour)
The important thing in serving tourists is to do with heart
in service. Because most of them have to welcome foreign tourists with language and cultural differences. These things may cause us some concerns for the duties of a guide. But above all, it is a tourist service because tour guides are like cultural ambassadors that will create a good image for the country. Should be careful in service and be prepared before duty, during duty, and after duty in order to minimize errors.
