2. Introduction
This module is tour guiding package design .In this module covered many areas of
tour guiding. Mainly covered by introduction of tour guide, type of tours, qualities required
to a tour guide and designing of itinerary etc. Tour guiding concept is Guides are tourism
professionals that lead their guests through the most interesting parts of their region. It is
their task to entertain visitors to their region and to help them to interpret the sights that they
are visiting. Tour guide is an individual,who,either,as an employee or affiliate of a duly
licensed travel and tour agency, guide tourist, both foreign and domestic, for a fee,
commission or any lawful from of remuneration. Tour guides provide many services, and
their responsibilities depend on the type of tour guide they are. While group size,
transportation method, age and trip length may differ, tour guides are typically responsible
for entertaining guests, answering questions and sharing relevant information to the groups or
individuals they are guiding. As a undergraduate of tourism many important that module for
the future career
In this journal mainly I mentioned what is learning about that module week by week.
What I interest about that module and challenges faced by while learning lessons and finally
I mention how I can apply this module for my future career.
 3. Learning process

 Week 01/02
That’s the first week of tour guiding and package design in this lesson I learned introduction of
tourist guide, several kinds of tour guide and quality of tour guide. I notice several kinds of
tourist guides in that lesson. There are, local tourist guide, national tourist guide, general tourist
guide and specialist tourist guide. Other hand I learned necessary quality of tour guides. When
learned qualities of tour guide I find it to be true that physical appearance is very important for
tour guide. Other hand tour guide’s code conduct is very important because country image
depend on tour guide’s behaviors. tour guide have not good behavior and have not good physical
appearance tourist reject tour guide and damage the country image that’s the challenge faced by
travel company therefor that’s quality is very important for the tour guide. In difficult part of that
lesson structure of commentary therefor I watched that lesson record three time after I noted
about that part
Thought that, I became aware that guides should have more responsibilities than
informing tourist about destinations and that a good tour guide should have more qualities. I saw
in sri lanka some places haven’t qualified tour guide some guide don’t know history of that
places then tourist uncomfortable and unhappy about our country then I suggest sri Lankan
government replace the qualified tour guide in tourism industry

Week 03/04
That lesson I learned different type of tours and differentiate them and I aware about different
type of tour packages. In this lesson describe three main function of tour operators. I find out for
types of tour operators in this lesson they are local, domestic, inbound and outbound tour
operators.in that lesson I learned what are the I should consider main component when I design
tour package it’s important for me and it’s interesting part of that lesson. All tour operator use
tour package for demand their company. Ex: in the Philippine use combination with all
component create one tour package and sell their product therefor we can design package
combination of two or more that component and I learned how to prepare proposal and
quotation. Other hand we learned that week what is adventure tour. New trend is adventure tour.
In the week 4 we learned type of tour guide.in the tourism industry we met different type
of tour guide they base on profession, type of service they provide. We watched in that week
Nepal tracking video. After watched we find out type of tour guide, what is the role of tour
guide, what is the tour guiding advance for couple, why do they need the support of a tour guide,
etc. we found that video had adventure tour guide. In that week I aware extra knowledge about
lukla airport that’s very in interesting. in Sri Lanka’s tour guide license given by SLTDA.
Week 05
that week I learned qualities required to a tour guide.in that part I learned most qualities of
excellent tour guides. In that part I understood personality is very important quality is for tour
guides because if tour guide haven’t good personality he can’t guide their team then personality
is very important. Other qualities is enthusiastic, engaging and communicative. Effectively
communicate is very important I find it to be true that lesson because tour guide Knowing how to
present themselves while speaking loudly and clearly so everyone can hear is essential and tour
guide should be a good listening. They must be able to think on their feet and adequately
articulate information while commanding the attention of multiple people. Organization skills is
very important quality for tour guide because if I when be a tour guide I haven’t good
organization skill my tour is loss then that quality is very important. Other one is enthusiastic it is
very important part of tour guide. If I haven’t that’s qualities I can’t been a good tour guide
therefor if I been a tour guide I should improve that qualities
Week 06
in that week I learned how to build rapport with other. Rapport is a close and harmonious
relationship in which people or groups understand each other’s feelings or ideas and
communicate well. Rapport is very well for understand the tourist. Under the rapport tourist
guide need better understanding of tour groups and what their background this part I learned
characteristics of few countries jerman,French,British etc. After the refer that lesson I get ideas
for building rapport. If we can’t build the rapport with our tourist we can’t give the better
experience for the tourist. Actually these lesson very important our day today life because after
the lesson I noticed how build good rapport with other. these lesson had some of the most
important qualities of excellent tour guides. Sure, for even better success, one could always add a
few more. For example, a good sense of direction, good pacing, good health, etc. If I find a tour
guide who’s got all this or if I am this guide I don’t have to worry about the success of my tour.

Week 07
In that week I watched video and understood who tour guide Tour guide is very good teacher for
tourist. I noticed that lesson tour guide should good strategy to communicate with group of
people. In my future career if I am be a tour guide I should good communicate skill if I haven’t
that skill I can’t successfully my tour. Other hand tourist feedback is very important because it’s
added tour guide value. In the future when I be a tour guide tourist give me a good feedback it is
added value for my career but tourist give me a bad feedback it’s not good for me therefor
tourist feedback is very important. In that lesson I noticed main thing is tourist feedback very
important for the my future career
Week 08
In this week I study tour guide training. In that part I learned how to plan good tour how tour
guide success they are tour.in the first step when tour guide planning tour should doing tour
preparation under that tour guide do a bit of research about the group. In that part we get
example in the class room Galle to yala tour. We discussed how to doing research and other
steps. Tour guide know about group country, age what are their special needs and interest, where
they going to next etc. in the future if I am be a tour guide while I am going to tour with my
group I should know about their country and language because if I am do not about their
language I can’t communicate with them. I know about tour places first they go Galle fort and
after their next destination is Colombo then I know about Galle to Colombo road map and how
much time spent for that if I am not aware about that I can’t success my tour if I can’t success
my tour I faced by a challenge therefor do a bit of research very important for the tourist. Next
step is pre departure preparation and update information according group and itinerary about
‘roads’ what the conditions are like and if any roads are closed and you cannot use them like
that. ‘Sites’ – access, opening hours, when they close and special exhibitions etc. after conduct
tour that’s the process of tour guide
Week 09
in that week we discussed requirement or job roll tour manager would play.in that week we done
some activities we take a time refer tour manager roles in job post that interest part in class room
for me. In that part I learned main things if I want be a tour manger I should have a own fashion I
should be a genuine person it is very important things in future career. Other special requirement
for the tour manager leadership and communication. Tour manager should doing training the tour
guide, schedule the tour guide there for leadership is very important for the tour manage that is
key requirements.
Ex- if imaging in your tour company will come Japanese tourist group on
tomorrow. If you haven’t tour guide about don’t Japanese language your company can’t lead that
group then tour manager is very important leadership and direction power
Other one is communication. You should have effective communication for leading the group.
Other requirement is energy level and good healthy because you work with international comity
sometimes you should stressful tourist physically and emotionally sometime it’s very hard for
you in that time you are very important good healthy
In that week I get a basic idea about what the basic requirement of the tour
manager it is very important for me
Week 10/11
in this discussed what are the information requirement as a senior in the tour.as tour operator or
manager has many duties first one is make an itinerary individual clients and group that one is
main duties when designing an itinerary tour operation should consider about accommodation,
transportation and meal about guest and it’s should matching for guest budget and other one is
itinerary should be specification that depending on group wise. Tour operator should design
itinerary always attraction. Tour operator always get update for tourists about itinerary. Other
role is coordinate the leader. In the itinerary operator should confirm the time details, to prepare
for changes, clearly mention inclusion and exclusion mention about meals, manage expectation.
For the understood that lesson we done case study for the class room we get for that activity for
example Europe tour group as the activity scenario is me and my international tour guide with
have little bit issues how I can handle that situation when I answered that question I understood
how find the solution about that scenario
 4. Conclusion
On the basic find what I study whole that module week by week. In this module week 1 to 9
learned about tour guide. Who is tour guide, what are the quality of tour guide, role of tour guide
like that, I find out that part tour guide is very important thing is their physical appearance and
behaviors. Week 10 to 11 learned about tour manager. Who is tour manager role of tour
manager, how design itinerary by tour manager, what are the quality of tour manager like that.in
this part I finalize important things for tour manager is design by itinerary
Mainly I mention in that journal my leaning process of week by week and the critical concepts of
the lesson, interesting part of lessons and how we can apply that knowledge for our future career
