Mental Health Challenges of Students

Good morning everyone. Allow me to be in front of you, screen to screen to lend my knowledge about Mental Health
Challenges of Students.

From an open space and free movement before the pandemic, a big shock welcomed everyone when strict restrictions
were implemented. The most affected ones are students who often go out to hang out with friends as a pastime or as a
way to vent out their problems at home through other people. Having not been accustomed to being locked at home for
hours, and even extended for months and even a year, it was hard for them to cope with the challenges of times. Based
on the news, many students experience symptoms of serious mental health conditions.

The mental health challenges that the students face today are considered a crisis. In the US alone, 30 % of the students
said that anxiety negatively affected their academic performance. The following are mental challenges usually faced by
students today and some tips on how to deal with the condition and ask for support for help. First, depression. This is a
persistent feeling of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of mpaying attention, and difficulty comprehending and completing
tasks in school or at work. Some other signs may also be talking about death or suicide, and experiencing extreme anger
or sadness over a relationship in their life. Experts suggest that if students experience some of these signs and
symptoms, they need to ask for professional help. Words of encouragement can also show that you are a source of
support. Second is Anxiety. This is a result of everyday stress as a result of worrying too much. If symptoms like
irritability, shortness of breath, excessive sweating and dizziness, headaches, muscle pain, and tension persist, you have
to consult a healthcare provider. Third is suicidal ideation or intent. This is planning one’s death by one’s hand.
Symptoms include the way they talk, mood, and behavior. When you notice changes in speech, mood, and actions in a
friend, it’s important to talk to them about your concerns as soon as possible. Fourth is Eating disorders and the last one
is substance misuse. Eating disorder has a variety of conditions marked by major irregularities in eating habits. This can
involve both food deprivation and binge eating which may be followed by purging. Substance misuse is the use of
alcohol and recreational drugs which can become problematic.

These are the top mental challenges of students these times that need medical attention and a show of support and love
from family, friends, and other loved ones. More importantly, the fear and belief in God is the foremost weapon to
address the dangers and harm mental health can cause to young ones.
