Question 1 (CLO2)

A plate element is stressed by a pressure of 40 N/mm2. It is treated as triangular meshed element

with 90 degree corner and has a thickness of t. Given the Poisson ratio, v=0.3 and modulus of
elasticity, E= 200 kN/mm2.

a) If the pressure is applied over the thickness and height of the plate, determine the
equivalent nodal forces applied on the element. Refer the dimension given in the table
below. (CLO2, PLO2)

b) From Figure 1, the coordinate (2, 9) is pinned while coordinate (9, 9) is roller supported
with restraint in y-direction. This has cause the plate to experience displacement especially
on the free-peak height of the plate. By using principle of Constant Strain Triangular
(CST), identify the deformed node’s location (by sketching). Then, derive the stiffness
expression for the element above to solve the unknown displacement. (CLO2,PLO2, WP1, WP2)

Question 2 (CLO3, PLO5, WP1,WP2)

By using Matlab tool, write a Matlab script and formulate the stiffness equation of the above problem.
Verify your answers from the manual calculation with the Matlab work. Your answers must consist of the
followings:-

-screenshot of your Matlab script, showing all the parameters involved (10 marks)
-screenshot of command window with answers of matrix [B], [K] and your unknown displacement.(10
marks)

*The Matlab script shall be unique as it is solely written/created by a programmer. Any plagiarism will
be given zero mark.
