perception of looking at all aspects of a situation first before making a conclusion
HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVE VS. PARTIAL POINT OF VIEW
HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVE
- looks at all aspects of the given problem or situation
- it refers to the perspective that considers large-scale patterns in system. This is often
described as looking at the “big picture” when describing and analyzing a situation or a
problem. A holistic perspective requires an individual to have an open mindset and an
ability to get general sense of or impression regarding a situation.
- all aspects are given importance when making conclusions
- all aspects are tied in together to form a general overview of the problem or situation
- HOLISM comes from the Greek word “holos” which literally means all, entire, totality
PARTIAL POINT OF VIEW
- is a perspective that looks at reality based on a single or partial component of a system
- it focuses on the specific aspects of the situation. The partial view is an important
component of analytical thinking, as an individual focuses on certain areas or aspects
of a problem in order to understand it
- looks only at a limited number of aspects of the given problem or situation
- conclusions are made based on considering some but not all sides of the problem or
situation

partial thinking.
This is critical for anyone doing philosophy because it sets a limit in coming up with conclusions
about a given situation.

- is a kind of system that aims to determine and explain the whole or totality of a given
system by examining the behaviors and activities of certain component parts
- it tries to broaden the understanding of reality by taking considerations of other possible
causal agents or factors be it biological, theological or any other factors that may
contribute to understanding a certain phenomenon

Looking at the characteristics of HP and PPV, it can be concluded that using a HP is MORE
DESIRABLE in doing philosophy than using a partial perspective.
Though PARITIAL THINKING is useful, Philosophy utilizes HOLISTIC THINKING in making
sense of problems and issues to the human experience.
PPsV only promote LIMTED KNOWLEDE on the situation. This leads to wrong conclusions.
Adopting a holistic view enables a person to view a problem more objectively and come up with
better decisions or solutions
A holistic view also means that one does not confine one’s understanding of the world to one’s
own perspective but also includes the perspective of others
