WHAT IS PHILOSOPHY

It is the study of the fundamental nature


of knowledge, reality, and existence,
especially when considered as an
academic discipline.
A study of how we understand
our existence and how we come
to know what is real, good, and
true.
Philosophy means (love of wisdom
in ancient Greek)

Thinking
In a word, analytical thinking is
about insight. But it is a special type
of insight you arrive at by taking
things apart.
Process Of Doing Philosophy
Doing philosophy involves asking the right questions,
critically examining the work of previous philosophers, and
possilbly building on or testing their works.
1st It requires an open mind, critical reason, and language.
2nd The basic procedures in doing philosophy are analysis,
criticism, and speculation.
ANALYSIS

It aims to clarify thoughts,


concepts, and the meaning of
language.
CRITICISM

The expression of disapproval of


someone or something based on
perceived faults or mistakes
SPECULATION

In principle, speculation can


involve any tradable good or
financial instrument.
Holistic Perspective & Partial Point Of
View
The difference between a holistic and partial
point of view is that a holistic perspective and a
partial point of view is that a holistic perspective
views things as a whole, while a partial point of
view is based on a part of the whole.
A holistic considers the interconnection
and impact of all the factors or
components that are relevant to a
phenomenon
A partial point of view is either based on
ones own opinions
Human Activities that Emated and Diliberate
Reflection
Activities Emanated from Deliberate Reflection
In the process, one can learn more about himself or
herself, including personal beliefs, ideals, or values.
Previous experiences may be seen as important aspects of
making reflections because they facilitate deeper
thinking and understanding of the self.
Human Activities Emanated from Deliberate
Reflection Examples:
- learning from your previous mistakes and not
repeating them again
- Evaluating and knowing the best choice from a set of
options
- Gaining a holistic point of view first before making
any conclusion
Value of Doing philosophy In Obtaining a
Broad Perspective In Life

Doing philosophy can help one obtain a broad perspective on life by:
Improving one’s problem-solving capacities by organizing ideas and
concepts and extracting what is fundamental from amounts of
information.
Helping one appreciate varied perspective and synthesis them into a
unified whole
Enabling reflective thinking that influences one’s view of life,
challenges, relationships
