REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Review of Related Literature and Studies

This chapter focuses on the related studies and literatures after the thorough and in-
depth search done by the researchers. The installation of an ordering system and its
function in enhancing service quality in certain firms are the subjects of this overview of
relevant studies, which discusses many ideas, concepts, and discussions of business
challenges from various points of view. This will act as a manual for the team in creating
the project.
Introduction
A review of the literature is a classification and assessment of the works that recognized
academics and researchers have produced on a subject, organized in accordance with
some sort of guideline, such as a research objective, thesis, or the problem or issue that
has to be resolved. The rapidly growing trend and innovation prompts research teams to
conduct studies on the online ordering system or web-based transaction system to
improve a company’s customer experience and technological advances in all aspects of
our daily lives.
Related Literature
The purpose of the restaurant ordering system is to address the shortcomings and
issues with the current Heng Family Kopitiam food ordering process. The second goal is
to create and implement a food ordering system to address the issues mentioned in the
previous goal. The final goal is to objectively assess the restaurant meal ordering system
with possible users, including the business owner, employees, and patrons. The owner
and the customer will both benefit from the suggested food ordering system. The user
may be able to sign up as a member using the system. The user can log in and out of
their member's page using the system. The user may be able to handle the data using
the system. The system enables online order placement for customers. The technology
enables the restaurant's owner to access reports that are generated using it. When
making a payment, the system may let the customer select their preferred payment
method (Tong, B. L., & Samsudin, 2022, p.2).
Some fast-food businesses utilize an online ordering system, or OOS, as a technology to
help with their marketing efforts and make use of the Internet. Utilizing a web browser
on a computer or smartphone that is linked to the internet, consumers can order their
preferred foods using the online ordering system. The fast-food sector will be helped to
overcome the difficulties they face while employing conventional food ordering systems
by putting this strategy into practice. As a result, it is simpler for restaurant staff to
process orders in a logical order, provide the appropriate item quickly, and lower the
risk of human error (Azahari, M. H., & Hamid Ali, F. A., 2022, p.370).
To immediately see the menu book and place an order, the customer must wait for the
server to approach them. This was deemed to be less effective because it was
anticipated that there would be a delay in providing the menu book to consumers when
they visited the cafe, and because the list of orders the customer selected was manually
entered, there was a chance of an error. As technology advances over time, human
needs—whether they be for personal use or in the world of business—also expand.
Based on the background that has been described, this study was conducted so that the
information problem on the list of food and beverage menu options can be given a
solution to solve the problems experienced, similar to how the hover cafe wants to be
improved to be better to increase customer comfort, especially in terms of ordering
(Kurniawan, R., Sutawan, A., & Amalia, R., 2019 p.33).
The goal of a web-based ordering information system is to process food orders placed
by customers and send them to the admin via the website. Customers may use an
already established mechanism to make payments. Utilizing object-oriented tools such
as Use case diagrams, Use case scenarios, and Activity diagrams for creating this system.
An overview and a description of each use case's functions are provided in the use case
diagram. The use case scenario includes a scenario that describes the use case
workflow. An overview of the numerous activity streams that occur in the system is
shown in the activity diagram (R. Herikson & P. S. Kurniati 2019).
Despite the fact that the current system employs certain technologies, the customer
queue in their food ordering system is not properly managed. Since the food is ordered
online through a web application, the system suggested in this project eliminates the
majority of manual labor and has no problems with customer lines. The suggested
system gets rid of billing calculation errors and gives the admin module a lot of facilities,
including all the analysis of orders, profit values, and stock that is needed (Shaikh et al.
2019 p.165).
What I suggest is an online ordering system that can be used in any meal delivery
company and was initially created for college cafeterias. This system's biggest benefit is
how much easier it makes it for both customers and restaurants to place orders. As the
entire ordering procedure is automated, the system also significantly reduces the
workload for the eateries. An order is placed on the website that will be created,
entered into the database, and then retrieved by a desktop application on the
restaurant's end very instantly. This program presents all of the order's items in a clear
and readable manner, together with their accompanying options and delivery
information. This enables the staff at the restaurant to rapidly process orders as they
are placed and provide the necessary items with the least amount of confusion and
delay. This system's versatility is its biggest asset (Trevor Kadye, n.d).
In an automated food ordering system is proposed which will keep track of user orders
smartly. Basically, they implemented a food ordering system for different type of
restaurants in which user will make order or make custom food by one click only. By
means of android application for Tablet PCs this system was implemented. The front
end was developed using JAVA, Android and at the backend MySQL database was used
(Adithya, Roshan & Singh, Abhishek & Pathan, Salma & Kanade, Vaishnav, 2017).
In Paper [8], the research work aims to automate the food ordering process in
restaurant and also improve the dining experience of customers. Design
implementation of food ordering system for restaurants were discuss in this paper. This
system, implements wireless data access to servers. The android application on user’s
mobile will have all the menu details. Kitchen and cashier receive the order details from
the customer mobile wirelessly. These order details are updated in the central database.
The restaurant owner can manage the menu modifications easily (Adithya, Roshan &
Singh, Abhishek & Pathan, Salma & Kanade, Vaishnav, 2017).
In Paper [9], this research works on efforts taken by restaurants owners also to adopt
information and communication technologies such as PDA, wireless LAN, costly
multi-touch screens etc. to enhance dining experience. This paper highlights some of
the limitations of the conventional paper based and PDA-based food ordering
system and proposed the low-cost touch screen based Restaurant Management
System using an android Smartphone or tablet as a solution (Adithya, Roshan & Singh,
Abhishek & Pathan, Salma & Kanade, Vaishnav, 2017).
In most of the restaurant meal ordering is relying on the interaction with waiters to
place order intothe kitchen. In busy hours of restaurant this coordination is a challenge
result in un-satisfaction to the customer. To realize this, Intelligent Restaurant is
designed. This Restaurant uses modern innovation such as multi-touchmodule, RF
module, Meal Serving Robot and database to improve quality of services of Restaurant
and to enhance customers’ dining experience. A meal serving robot is a line following
robot which is designed using sensor to track the black line path predetermined for
serving. Android Application - PayPal is used for online payment (Ashwini Bankar ,
Sheeja S. Suresh, n.d).

SYNTHESIS
There were several stages in the creation of the online meal ordering system. The
method utilized is top-down, focusing first on what, then how, and then to progressively
finer details. The first stage began with a thorough analysis of the challenges and
opportunities associated with restaurant ordering. The efficiency of the current manual
system was found to have been affected by a number of problems during the course of
this study. The first phase was immediately followed by the system design phase, which
was used as the foundation for these issues, information demands, and activities. The
system elements' specification in a way that best suited the organization's business
requirements was the main focus of the design phase. Proven software engineering
concepts and techniques were strictly followed during this phase. Then, a computer
application was created and evaluated in the phpMyadmin environment to put this
design into practice. The effective use of this software solution is expected to solve
several issues that were found during systems analysis.
