1 GENERAL
1.1 Purpose
This document sets forth a uniform procedure for thickness, width, and length measurements to
determine acceptability of sheet steel supplied in coils and cut lengths.
All sheet steel supplied to Chrysler Corporation Material Standards shall meet the requirements of this
standard as well as all of the requirements of the applicable material standard.
This standard applies to all hot rolled, cold rolled, and coated (see MS.50002) sheet steel products.

For coils and cut lengths supplied in widths up to 300 mm (~12"), the point of measurement will be at any
point across the width of the coil not less than 10 mm (3/8") from either cut edge of the coil. If the coil is
a multi from a master coil then the standard for coils larger than 300 mm (~12”) will apply.
For coils and cut lengths supplied in widths 300 mm (~12") and wider, the point of measurement will be
at any point across the width of the coil not less than 40 mm (1 9/16") from either side edge of the coil.
For all coils the measurements will be made after the first 15.24 m (50 ft.) of the coil length and before
the last 15.24 m (50 ft.) of coil.
All materials going into the first operation of fabrication must meet the minimum / nominal thickness
specified on the drawing.
The uniform allowance for deviation from specified thickness will be as follows:
A. To calculate the minimum thickness from the nominal thickness specified on a drawing subtract the
tolerance given from one of the corresponding tables (3 – 7) of this document.
B. To calculate the maximum thickness from the nominal thickness specified on a drawing add the
tolerance given from one of the corresponding tables (3 – 7) of this document.
C. Where the minimum thickness has been specified on the drawing, find the corresponding gage
tolerance from one of the tables (3 – 7). Add the tolerance to the minimum thickness to calculate the
nominal gage. Does this nominal gage keep you in the same tolerance band width as the minimum
gage? If not add 0.01mm to get the correct nominal gage. Refer to section 4.1 A and B to
recalculate the minimum and maximum thickness for the specified gage.
The uniform allowances for deviation from specified coil width will be as follows:
B. The plus width tolerance will be in accordance with the standard width tolerance tables. Width
tolerance tables are identified as Tables 8 and 9.

Planarity allowance is the maximum allowed distance between the rolled section surface and the
horizontal plane surface on which it rests (Table 10).
A. For lengths > 5000 mm and/or widths < 600 mm surface planarity allowances must be specified in the
purchase order and agreed upon every time with the Supplier.
B. Possible restricted allowances on surface planarity must be specified in the purchase order and
agreed upon every time with the Supplier.
Material received which does not meet the uniform requirements of this standard shall be subject to
rejection.
