Introduction

Course description
The course provides an introduction to Engineering and Project Management with

a focus on principles of engineering management, engineering economic concepts

related to management and types of project management techniques.

Ethics in project management.

The instruction may be supplemented with case studies.

Course Aims and Objectives

Course goals
To enable students to understand, analyse, and apply Engineering management
fundamentals, basic economic principles.

Introduce students to Project management techniques.

Course objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

Understand the engineering management concepts and Project cash flows.

Understand and apply basic principles of engineering and project management


technologies in Engineering industry. [ELO 7]

Apply professional and ethical aspects of Engineering and Project management in


engineering work environment. [ELO 10]

Course Assessment
Assessment Criteria
The tentative assessment plan:

One (1) mini project, two (2) written Assignments/quizes and two (2) tests.

The ratio of tests-to-practical work-to-assignment/quiz shall be 5:3:2.

Assignment 1 & 2 2 x 10 %
Assignment 3 - Mini-project 30 %
Tests (2 x 25%) 50 %
Final Examination 60 %
Group Mini-project
This involves groups of 5 students carrying out a mini-project. The project
deliverables include a group presentation and a project report - approx. 10 pages.
Application of what is learnt in class.
