 Irregular Adjectives (不规则形容词)

有些形容词以 comparative / superlative 的形态出现时，不加-er/-est/ more/most,而

把形容词的字换掉

 Differences Between Irregular Adjectives

1. Farther / Further
Farther 和 further 都可以表达距离远的意思。但 further 还有进一步，再多的意思。
Taman Universiti is further / farther from Johor Bharu than Taman Tun Aminah.
He made further remarks after a pause.
Please reply my email without further delay.

2. First / Foremost
First 表达的是首先, 第一个
Foremost 表达的是一群人/ 堆东西里最重要的一个人或东西

3. Elder / older , Eldest/ oldest

Elder (比较年长的) / Eldest (最年长的)。这两个词都用在人方面表达年长，特别
是家庭成员。
I have two siblings. Joshua is my eldest brother. Adrian is also my elder brother.
Elder / eldest 不能用在东西/动物方面
I have two smartphones. The red one is elder than the blue one. (X)
I have two smartphones. The red one is older than the blue one. (O)
Elder 不能和 than 用在一起

4. Older (比较年老/久的) / Oldest (最年老/久的)。这两个词都可以用在人，动物，

东西方面。
Moti mosque is the oldest mosque in Delhi.
Michael is the oldest player in the team.
Kim Ling is older than Kim Seng.

5. Later / last 用于表达某动作/ 事情/ 东西的前后次序。Later 表示下一个，last

表达最后一个
He was later in the list than I had expected.
The last scene of the movie is very touching.
