​Meaning and use

​Sentence:
​
​A- affirmative statements:
​S+was-were +v ing
​To talk about activities that were in progress
​
​at a specific time in the past
​B- negative statements:
​S+ was-were +not+ v ing
​To talk about several activities that were in
​progress at the same time.

​To expresses a completed past activity ​Examples : he was eating

​dinner. He was not eating
​Examples: 1-she was studying at France ​dinner.
​university in 2014. 2- at 7 o’clock she was
​making breakfast, and I were preparing the ​Questions:
​table. 3- at 6: 30 Sara was making breakfast. ​
​A- yes/noQ:
​Stative verb ​Were-was+s+ v ing
​
​B- WhQ:
​Wh+ was-were+s v ing
​Only used in the simple past: know,
​own, mean, seem, and understand.

​Examples: was he eating

​dinner? Who was he eating?
​Example: I know all the answers.

​Used with past continuous, but

​they used as action verb with
​different meaning.

​Example: I was thinking about her recently.
