ASSESSMENT IN MULTIPLE REGRESSION

1. We want to determine whether hours spent revising, anxiety scores,

and A-level entry points have effect on exam scores for participants.
Dependent variable: exam score
Predictors: hours spent revising, anxiety scores, and A-level entry
points.

Answer the following:

1. Determine the best fitted regression model. 5 pts
Model 1 has an R² of0.760, whereas Model 2 has an R² of 0.832. The
R² of model 2 indicates that the components included in the model explained
83.2 percent of the variance, while the remaining 16.8 percent is explained
by factors not included in the model. On the other hand, the R² of model 1
indicates that the components included in the model explain 76 percent of
the variance. In comparison, the remaining 24 percent is explained by factors
not included in the model. As a result, model 2 is the best fitting model
because it has a higher proportion of variation explained by the factors
included due to its higher R² value.

2. Write the equation of the regression model (best -fit model) and
interpret all he Beta coefficients. 10 pts
Equation of the regression model:
Y = -3.925 + 1.994 hours spent revising + .476 level entry points
Interpretation of Beta Coefficients:
• It is the A level entry points in Beta 1.
Keeping all other variables unchanged, a one-unit increase in exam
score results in a 1.994-point rise in A level entry points.
• It is the hours spent in revising in Beta 2.
Keeping all other variables fixed, every unit improvement in exam
score corresponds to a 0.476 increase in hours spent revising.
According to the findings of the analysis, two models were created.
The model includes two independent variables as predictors, a level of
admission points and hours spent revising.

3. Interpret the ANOVA for regression fit. 5pts

Since the p-value is 0.000, it is less than the alpha of 0.05. As a result,
the result shows that the model is dependable, implying a significant
association between the variables in the regression model. The distribution
of F tabulated values is less than0.001, and the likelihood of observing a
value larger than or equal to the F-calculated is less than 0.001. As a result,
there is substantial evidence that Beta 1 and Beta 2 are not equal to 0. Also,
according to the ANOVA analysis table, the F-calculated value for model 1
is F=56.922, whereas the F-calculated value for model 2 is F= 42.089. The
analysis of variance (ANOVA) results revealed that model 2 is a well-fitting
model.

4. Determine and interpret the coefficient of determination r 2. 5pts

The result shows that the coefficient of determination of model 2 r² is
.832, equals to 83.2%. Other variables explain only 16.8% of the variance.
Thus, this suggests that two variables, A level entry points and hours spent
revising, account for more than 80% of the difference in exam scores.

5. What can we conclude about the relationship of the dependent

and predictor variables? 5 pts
Based on the data, we may conclude that at least one of the predictor
factors is statistically significant. The output clearly shows that the p-values
for models 1 and 2 are both less than alpha for predictor variables. Both
models have statistically significant A level entry points. Finally, we may
conclude a significant association in predicting exam scores, a good
predictor for both model 1 and model 2 A level entry points.
