1. The T-beam is composed of 120 mm slab and a beam. It has an effective of 530 mm and width of
the web of 320 mm. Center to center spacing of beam is 500 mm, and it has a span of 3m. It is
reinforced with 10-32 mm diameter (2 layer, 5 each layer) tension bars with fy = 414 MPa.
Concrete strength f’c = 32MPa. Determine the service live load moment if the service dead load
moment including the weight of the beam is 350 kN-m. Use NSCP 2015.
2. Calculate the ultimate moment capacity of the beam is the A’s = 1953 mm2and As=4,784 mm2.
Use fy = 414 MPa and f’c = 34.5 MPa. Use NSCP 2015. d’ = 80 mm and d = 700 mm.
3. Design a rectangular beam that can carry the dead load moment of 100 kN-m and live load
moment of 120 kN-m. Use unit weight of concrete = 23.6 kN/m3. Use d = 1.7b. Assume fy = 414
MPa and f’c = 24 MPa. Use 25 mm bar diameter. Use NSCP 2015.
4. The beam has 8 m length and used to support the moving loads which has the front tire load of
120 kN and rear tire load of 80 kN. The spacing between tires are 4 m. Cross-section of the beam
are b = 300 mm, h = 500 mm, d = 430 mm, d' = 70 mm, As = 3 -25 mm bars, A's = 2-20 mm bars.
Unit weight of concrete = 24 kN/m3, f'c = 21 MPa, fy = 414 MPa. Assume normal weight of
concrete. Determine the following.
a. fc
b. f’s
c. fs
5. A 10 m reinforced concrete beam has a cross-section of b = 300 mm, h = 500 mm, d = 430 mm,
d' = 70 mm, As = 4 - 25 mm, A's = 2-25 mm. The beam is simply supported and it has an
additional support at midspan. Unit weight of concrete = 24 kN/m3, f'c = 28 MPa, fy = 415 MPa.
Use NSCP 2015. Determine the design moment strength of the beam.
6. A 8 m reinforced beam carries a uniform deadload of 6.5 kN/m (including its own weight), a
uniform liveload of 5 kN/m a concrentrated load of 1.5P located at the mid length of the
supports and 0.5P at 1 m from the overhang of beam. The supports are located at the left end of
the beam and 3 m from the right end of the beam. Cross-section of the beam, b = 350 mm, h =
550 mm, d = 490 mm, As = 5-25 mm2, fy = 414 MPa, and f'c = 34.5 MPa. Determine the Design
moment strength of the beam and value of P.
7. Calculate the bending stresses in the concrete and the reinforcing steel, using transformed area
method: 𝑓’𝑐 = 24 MPa, normal weight concrete, 𝑛 = 8, 𝑀 = 350 kN-m. The beam has a following
properties: 𝑏𝑤 = 300 mm, 𝑏𝑓 = 1400 mm, ℎ𝑓 = 120 mm, 𝑑 = 700 mm, 𝐴𝑠 = 6 − 28 mm.
8. Calculate the bending stresses in the rectangular beam section given the following properties: 𝑛
= 9, 𝑀 = 200 kN-m, 𝑏 = 350 mm, ℎ = 500 mm, 𝑑 = 435 mm, 𝑑′ = 65 mm, 𝐴𝑠 = 4− 25 mm, 𝐴′𝑠 = 2−
25 mm.
9. Design a T-beam for a floor system for which bw= 300 mm and d = 550 mm. The beams are 4.5 m
long and spaced at 3 m o.c. The slab thickness is 100 mm. MD= 450 kN-m (inclunding its own
weight), ML= 350 kN-m. f’c = 24 MPa, fy = 414 MPa. Use 28 mm bar diameter. Use NSCP 2015.
10. A rectangular beam has b = 300 mm and d = 490 mm. Concrete compressive strength f’c =27.6
MPa and steel yield strength fy = 276 MPa. Compression steel if required shall have its centroid
60 mm from extreme concrete fiber. Calculate the required tension steel area if the factored
moment Mu is 650 kN-m.
11. A reinforced concrete rectangular beam has a width of 300 mm and an effective depth to
bottom bar of 450 mm. The beam is reinforced with five 32 mm bottom bars and two 28 mm
top bars located 65 mm from the top of the beam. Concrete strength f’c = 34.5 MPa and steel
strength fy = 345 MPa. Calculate the ultimate moment capacity of the beam. Use NSCP 2015.
12. A 300 mm x 500 mm rectangular beam is to carry a dead load moment of 150 kN-m (including
its own weight) and a live load moment of 180 kN-m. Assume concrete cover (measured from
bar centroid) to be 70 mm in compression and 80 mm in tension. Determine the number of 28
mm bars to be used. Use fy = 345 MPa and f’c = 27 MPa. Use NSCP 2015.
