Introduction
The Present Perfect is formed from the present tense of the
verb have and the past participle of a verb. We use the present perfect:
1.For something that started in the past and continues in the
present and
2. When we are talking about our experience up to the present
We often use the adverb ever to talk about experience up to the
present, and we use never for the negative form
The present perfect is a very important tense in English, as we’ve
probably already seen. It’s used in a variety of ways, which means it
can take some time for we as English's students to become familiar with
it.

PRESENT PERFECT
The "present perfect" of any verb is made
up of two elements: the appropriate form
of the auxiliary verb to have (in the
present) and the "past participle" of the
main verb. The "past participle" form of a
regular verb is root + ed, e.g. played,
arrived, looked. Regarding irregular
verbs, see the Table of irregular verbs in
the 'Verbs' section.
Functions of the "present
perfect"
The "present perfect" is used to
o
indicate a link between the present
and the past. The time in which the
action takes place is prior to the
present but unspecific and, often,
there is a greater interest in the
result than in the action itself.
The "present perfect" is used to describe
Actions initiated in the past and continuing in the
present
