• WELL OBJECTIVES
Barboni gas field is located about 60km NNE from Port Said, within North Port Said
Concession. The field has been discovered in 1997 by exploratory well Barboni 1 which
encountered, within a depth ranging from 1,100 to 2,050m TVDSS, four gas bearing levels; all
the reservoir sandstones are within the Pliocene section of Kafr El Sheikh formation.
Barboni-1 field discovery have been developed with the tie-back and completion of the same
well, with the drilling of two additional wells (Barboni-2 & Barboni-3) and with the start of
production (June 2005).
Barboni 4 will be drilled as deviated well starting from Barboni Platform, torward SSW direction
with with an horizontal displacement of about 750m and a vertical TD of -1,550m ssl.
Barboni 4 has been designed as infilling well in order to anticipate production and maximise the
recovery from Anomaly 4. This well will also substitute the foreseen change of zone of Barboni 2
(in Anomaly 4) and Barboni 1 (in Anomaly 2).

On May 2006 an RST Log verified that the original GWC rose up about 25m in 11 months of
production. At present no reliable SBHP or STHP is available for Anomaly #4. However,
according to a material balance simulation, the present pressure within Anomaly #4 should be in
a range between 115 and 140 Kg/cm2 (@ 1460 m TVD ssl reference depth).
• TEMPERATURE PROGNOSIS
Direct temperature measurement from Barboni's 1 12 1/4" log runs are available for temperature
prediction in the borehole. Using Fertl's interpolation of three subsequent runs, a static
temperature of about 69 degrees Celsius @ 1755 m TVDSS has been forecasted.
This value is close to an homogeneous geothermal gradient of 30oC/100m.

• LOGGING PROGRAM
Subject to discussion with Petrophysics Division, the logging program is the following:
• COMPLETION
The wells will be completed with Inside Casing Gravel Pack on Anomaly 2 and Anomaly 4.
Completion design with sliding sleeve in front of Anomaly 2 should allow commingle production
at the beginning and eventually future water shut off both from the upper and the lower level.
5 Well Sketch
7 Location Map
8 Well engineering
Pressure gradients and profiles of the Barboni-4 well have been estimated base on the data
collected from the other Barboni wells.
The VSP data recorded at the end of the well Barboni-1 have been elaborated to obtain the
overburden and the fracture gradient values of the formation to be drilled. LOT/FIT data from
reference wells have been used to validate the pressure profile obtained through the VSP.
RFT and shut-in wellhead pressure have been evaluated to determine the reservoir pressure and to
estimate the actual nature of the depletion within the Anomaly#4.
The pore pressure is expected to be at normal gradient from the surface up to the top of the Kafr El
Sheikh formation, where it starts to show a gradual increasing trend. The 13 3/8" casing will isolate
the under/normal compacted surface formations. The setting of the 13 3/8" will allow the installation
of the 18 3/4" BOPs before entering inside the mineralized levels of the Anomaly#1.
Pore pressure trend on top of the five sand bodies of the Kafr El Sheikh (Anomalyes 1 to 5) shows
a peak on top of each sand bodies and a reverse trend inside each sand level. This trend justifies
the 1.22sg EMW kick (23bbls gain) taken on Barboni-1 just above Anomaly #1. Max pore pressure
in the 12 1/4" section is estimated in 1.21-1.23 kg/cm²/10m on top of Anomaly #1. Mud weight
adopted in the reference wells (1.38 - 1.42sg) do not reflect the real pore pressure trend of the
shale in this section; in fact the presence of splintered cavings with mud weight lower than 1.32sg is
probably the indication of formation stresses inducted by the proximity of a mayor closure fault. In
light of this possible formational stress, it is of paramount importance to set the 9 5/8" casing just on
top of the depleted sand body of the Anomaly#4.
Anomaly#4 is currently producing through well Barboni-1, and its actual pore pressure is estimated
within the range 0.76-0.93 kg/cm²/10m (referred to TVD RKB). Mud weight in this section will be
adjusted according to well behaviour.
The pressure profiles for the Barboni field and the estimated pressure gradients for the well
Barboni-4 are presented in the next pages.

Mud Losses
• No major mud losses are expected while drilling. In Barboni-2 few mud losses were
recorded in the 16” section (max formation losses 6bbls/hr). Formation losses were cured
easily with LCM pills or they plugged by themselves. In 16” phase the high flow rate might
produced surface losses.
• The use of a KCl polimer mud system since the beginning is not advisable since it
reduces the mud cake thickness and enhance the seepage losses in the uncompacted
clay/shales of the Mit Ghamir Fm.
• In the 16" section inside the Mit Ghamir formation the use of an excessive flow rate
(>850gpm) might cause formation wash-outs.
Pay Zones
• Barboni-4 has been designed as a replacement of the Barboni-2 St#1 well in order to
anticipate the production from the anomalies #2 . Well path will encountered all the four
upper anomalies of the Barboni field (from Anomaly#1 to Anomaly#4); due to their thickness
and to the high porosity high drilling gas is to be expected in a fast perforation of the same
layers. Attention should be paid in keeping the mud weight even in & out. In case of high
drilling gas stop drilling and circulate the gas out; do not increase the mud weight before
reaching a stable background gas.
• Expected pore pressure for the Anomaly #4 is ranging between 0.76 and 0.93 kg/cm²/10m;
due to the high depletion of this level it will be of paramount importance the setting of the 9
5/8" casing as close as possible to the top of the sand body. In accordance with Petroleum
Dept. decision will be taken over the opportunity of setting the 9 5/8" shoe within the first
twenty meters of the Anomaly #4, to cover the interbedded sand bodies in the top part of it.
The isolation of the pressurized shale in the top part of this anomaly, will be the key to a
safe reduction of the mud weight in the 8 1/2" section.
The casing profile has been designed to include all casing strings that are anticipated in order to
reach the primary target of the well with 8 ½” hole.
The designed casing setting depths may vary and will be dependent upon the LOT results at the
casings shoes, actual pore pressure trend and actual mud weight, as well as unexpected hole
problems during the drilling operations (eg.: fault behaviour).
9.1 26" x 36" hole section for 30" CP to 200mVD RKB (200mMD RKB)
◊ In order to minimize the concurrence of simultaneous operations with the other producing
wells on the Barboni platform, decision has been taken to drill the 36" hole for the 30" CP,
instead of proceeding with the hammering of the same.
◊ The purpose of setting the CP at this depth is to isolate the weak and lose formation below
mudline and avoid losses while drilling the 16" section and the 13 3/8" casing running.
◊ The 30" CP will allow the use of the diverter system for the drilling of the 16" section.
◊ 36" hole will be drilled by means of a tandem of 26" bit + 36" underreamer.
◊ The section will be drilled without return at surface with seawater and super sweep pills for
hole cleaning purposes.
9.2 16” section for 13 3/8” surface casing to 1156mVD RKB (1183mMD RKB)
◊ The purpose of drilling this phase is to set the 13 3/8” casing to cover all the
unconsolidated sands of Mit Ghamr and Wastani formation. The 13 3/8” casing will be
set @ 1156 mVD RKB, at the top of the Kafr El Sheikh formation (about 30m inside it).

◊ The section will be drilled by mean of a conventional steerable system (motor + bent
housing). The use of the APWD to monitor the hole cleaning is planned.
◊ It is important to cover all the sands of the Wastani formation and set the shoe in the
upper shales of the Kafr El Sheikh and get a good LOT value to deepen the next section.
◊ Directional plan foresees to nudge the well just below the shoe to overcome anticollision
problems with the well Barboni-2 and Barboni-1 (see directional plan section view). Two
additional KOPs are present inside the section: the first, at 504mVD RKB, will turn the well
azimuth from 160° to 217.05° (BUR 1.5°/30m), with a final inclination of 9°; whereas a
second KOP at 847m MD RKB, will increase the section inclination up to 31° (at 13 3/8"
casing point).
◊ The section will be drilled across the Kafr El Sheikh Fm. and will cross the three sand bodies
(Anomalies #1, #2 and #3) located in the upper part of the Barboni field sequence. The
crossed anomalies are at their virgin pressure (Anomaly#2 is the secondary target of the
well).
◊ This section will be drilled by means of Anadril RSS system. Based on the performance
achieved on Barboni-2 and Barboni-3 wells in terms of shale inhibition, reduced cuttings
agglomeration and cuttings accretion on the BHA components, inhibitive water base mud
system (Ultradril – MI) will be adopted. Max mud weight for this section is estimated in
1.38sg, however formation stresses might require further increase in the mud weight (in
Barboni-3 mud weight has been increased up to 1.42sg).
◊ The 9 5/8” casing shoe will be set as close as possible to the top of the Anomaly#4, with the
aim to cover all the permeable layers at virgin pressure above the depleted reservoir sands
and to minimize the shales to be drilled with the 8 ½” section before entering the sand body.
This will allow to cut the mud weight of the DIF for the 8 ½” section.

◊ This section will be drilled by means of Anadril RSS system. No major change in the
azimuth are foreseen (from 215.25° to 207.15°), whereas the inclination will rise up with a
BUR of 2°/30m, from 31° to about 50° (at 1497m MD RKB).
◊ LWD (Res-GR) will be recorded all along the section. No PPFG services have been
requested.
◊ The expected choke margin at the end of the next 8 1/2" section is approx 79.71 kg/cm².
The expected kick tolerance for the 9 5/8" casing shoe, considering a maximum pore
pressure gradient in case of kick of 1.11 kg/cm²/10m (1.0% more than the planned max mud
weight in section and about 19.74% higher than the expected max pore pressure in
section), and as formation fluid gas at 0.25sg, is about 190.6 bbl.
Note:Current kick tolerance design is based on an estimated value of fracture gradient (1.63 kg/cm²/10m)
inside the Anomaly #4 depleted sand.
◊ This section will be drilled through the producing sands of the Anomaly#4. No directional
work will be performed (holding inclination to 50°, azimuth to 217.15°).
◊ The section will be drilled with DIF. The DIF density will be 1.1sg, to be adjusted as actual
hole condition dictates.
◊ The Reservoir simulation has prognosed the formation gradient, considering the current
production of well Barboni-1 equal to 115-140 kg/cm², grad 0.762-0.927 kg/l @ 1509m TVD.
◊ The 7” casing will be set inside the sand body (Anomaly#4 length ≈350m TVD) about 15m
TVD above the calculated actual GWC.

16. Seal the first four (4) joints with bakerlock. Fill up every joint with mud.
17. After 6 joints, test the float equipment pumping at different flow rates and record pressure
losses.
18. An external inflatable casing packer 13 3/8”-9 5/8” will be run to isolate the annulus at 520m
MD (about 650m inside the 13 3/8” casing shoe).
19. At the 13 3/8” shoe circulate the casing volume. Perform circulation test at different flow
rates.
20. With casing on bottom, circulate a minimum of 1.5 the casing volume or until shaker clean
and record pressure losses.
21. R/D circulating head and install cement head loaded with cement plugs (non rotating PDC
drillable plugs).
22. Test cement lines and perform cement job as per program.
23. Bump plugs to 700psi over the final pump pressure. If plugs fail to bump do not over
displace (maximum over-displacement equal to half capacity of shoe track).
24. Bleed off gradually casing pressure and check for back flow. If the float does not hold, shut-in
at the surface and WOC.
25. WOC for about two hours. Set the external casing packer as per service company
procedures (recorded the volume of fluid pumped in and returned back). If the plugs did not
bump, the ECP packer will be set after the complete WOC.
26. Perform the ECP test at 900psi for 10min pressurizing up the annulus (record the pumped
volumes). Theoretic leak off pressure, considering a fracture gradient at the shoe of the 13
3/8" CSG equal to 1.67 kg/cm²/10m and the height of the slurry at 865m MD, is at 635psi.
27. Complete WOC as per cementing program (if the ECP test fails, the WOC will be performed
with BOP closed and with a minimum back pressure applied). Check slurry surface samples.
28. Disconnect BOPs lines. Hang off BOPs stack.
29. Rough cut with cold cutter 9 5/8" casing and L/D cut off landing joint.
30. Lift 18 3/4" BOP stack and drop 9 5/8” casing slips with at least 40 klb overpull over final
landing string weight (the minimum overpull value will be given according to the real data).
Wrap casing slips around casing and latch them with the spring retaining ring. Lower slips
into braden head checking for correct alignment.
Offline activities:
Perform the complete download of the LWD memory data with the tool racked in derrick.
Pick up one 9 5/8” casing joint and assemble with 9 5/8" x 13 3/8" ECP. Drift ECP (8 ½”
drift) and rack back in derrick.
P/U 9 5/8" casing in stands (3 jnts) and rack in derrick. The first three (3) joints will be
sealed with thread-lock compound.
P/U enough DP stands to reach the 8 1/2” section TD.
L/D 12 1/4" BHA
Prepare cementing head (loaded with no rotating plugs).
Note: The opportunity of running some 13%Cr joints will be decided in accordance with
Completion Dept.
25. After running 6 joints, test the float equipment and record pressure losses at different flow
rate.
26. Perform circulation test at different flow rate once the liner string is completely made up.
Keep the circulating pressure at surface below the liner hanger setting pressure. Make sure
the pack-off is not leaking (liner hanger above RT). Circulate 1.5 times the liner capability.
27. Prior to M/U drift DP and check ID of all tools, subs, crossovers and pup joints to ensure
passage of the cement darts and of the slips setting ball. At 7” casing shoe, circulate inside
liner volume. Perform circulation test at different flow rate. Record P/U, S/O weight.
28. Continue to run casing to bottom.
29. Set the liner hanger as per BOT procedures. Release setting tool and circulate while
preparing the cement slurry. R/U cement lines and manifold lines for direct and reverse
circulation.
30. Test cement lines.
31. Perform cement job as per program.
32. Displace wiper plug and slurry volume with cement unit. Bump plugs to 800psi over the final
pump pressure. If plugs fail to bump do not over displace (max overdisplacement equal to
half capacity of shoe track).
Offline activities:
Perform the complete download of the LWD memory data with the tool racked in derrick.
Verify liner hanger setting pressure and check with liner hanger operator if string rotation
is allowed. M/U the liner hanger assy loaded with the cement plugs and the Baker rotating
cement head and rack back in derrick.
P/U 7" liner in stands (3 jnts) and rack in derrick. The first three (3) joints will be sealed
with thread-lock compound.
P/U enough DP stands to reach the 8 1/2” section TD.
L/D 5 7/8" DP excess.
M/U 3 1/2" DP stands for completion purposes.
Prepare 6" BHA.
Prepare 7" x 9 5/8" scraper BHA.
L/D 8 1/2" BHA.
M/U 8 1/2" cleaning BHA.

Bit selection will be operational related and based on field successful case histories, bit features, and
BHA configuration with the aim of improving the actual drilling performances.
¾ The 13 3/8” casing (68# P110 BTC), the 9 5/8" casing (47# P110 AMS) and the 7" liner (32# Q125 AMS) have been positively verified to
the anticipated stresses for the well in object according to the Eni "Casing Design Manual" procedures (STAP-P-1-M-6110).
¾ Packer fluid was assumed 1.25sg (completion fluid used in Barboni-3 well is 1.25 – 1.22sg completion fluid was adopted on Barboni-2
well).
17 Mud programme
The well Barboni-4, is a development off-shore well that will be drilled in Barboni Marine field.
The target zones are Anomaly 2 & 4 within Kafr El Sheikh formation. The surface section will
be drilled using traditional Kcl/Polymer (Spud Mud) to cake-off the unconsolidated sands of
the Mit Ghamr & Wastani formations. The intermediate section will be drilled using a high
performance water based mud system (ULTRADRIL). The reservoir will be drilled using non
damaging system (Flo-Pro) supported with special sized Calcium Carbonate.
KEY ISSUES
Lost Circulation: this issue may be encountered within the surface section (lose sands). This
issue will be controlled with the use of thick slurry of pre-hydrated gel. Down hole losses
within the reservoir setion will be controlled using special sized Calcium Carbonate.
Hole Cleaning: low-shear rate viscosity “LSRV” values (6 and 3 rpm) has a greater impact on
hole cleaning than yield point, in addition it provides cuttings suspension under dynamic, as
well as static, conditions. Controlling LSRV with the Duovis as per designed concentration will
eliminate any chance of hole problems that may result from improper cleaning.
Hole cleaning is not only means within the open hole, but also inside the cased holes.
MI’s Virtual Hydraulics need to be run all the time to indicate cleaning performance all
over the hole sections.
Hole Stability: due to the active nature of Kafr El Sheikh Formation shale, an inhibited system
should be utilized to eliminate this activity. ULTRADRIL is the recommended system to
achieve the required stability of Kafr El Sheikh Formation.
Mud density plays an effective role in hole stability. It is recommended at any signs of
pressurized shale at the shakers to increase the mud density.
Stuck Pipe (Hole Pack-off): the past experience on well Barboni-2 raised the issue of the hole
pack-off during the tripping out of hole. Proper mud density, together with tripping practices
are the main factors to eliminate such issue. The following technique is recommended
whenever tripping out :
Prior tripping out, rotate the string with minimum 120-140 RPM and circulate with the
maximum flow rate.
Keep circulation for minimum of 1.5 times the hole volume or till shakers are clean.
Stop rig pumps,
Pull out on elevators only,
If any overpull is experienced, repeat the above passages from step #1.

36” hole section will be drilled using sea water with frequent sweeps of high viscous pills composed
of pre-hydrated bentonite. Upon drilling the required depth, the hole will be displaced with gel mud
having a density of 1.20 kg/l prior running with 30" conductor pipe.
Recommended Properties:
Recommended Properties:
12.25” hole section will be drilled through the Kafr El Sheikh Formation & Anomaly #2. This section
is mainly composed of active & time sensitive shale which requires high performance inhibited
system. ULTRADRIL is a new generation water-base drilling fluid system designed to deliver the
performance characteristics of an invert emulsion drilling fluid (OBM) without the inherent
environmental limitations. The design employs a triple-inhibition mechanism approach to provide
optimum shale inhibition without depending on performance-limiting salts, such as CaCl2. The
system employs three additives: a specially engineered shale inhibitor, an encapsulating polymer,
and a specifically developed accretion inhibitor.
The interval will be drilled using the salvaged mud (Ultradril) that was used in well Barboni-3. This
mud should be run through the available solid control equipment in order to get rid of the fine solids.
The following guidelines should be followed during running the mud system:
- Drill cement, casing shoe, and rat hole with mud from previous section. Conduct FIT test
and displace hole with new ULTRADRILL mud.
- pH: The pH of the active system should be controlled between 9.0-9.5.
- Dilution: premix of dilution fluid should be based on the expected depletion rate and the
rate of dilution to maintain the proper concentration of Ultra-Hib and Ultra-Cap. Any premix
should made by 3.5 % Ultra-Hib 2 ppb Ultra cap and 2 ppb Poly-Pac UL.
- Bit balling /Poor ROP: This mud system is designed to improve the ROP and reduce the
tendency to bit balling if any indication of bit balling or poor ROP are noticed, increase the
concentration of Ultra-Free (which can be add directly into the mud system).
The expected salvaged volume is 600 bbl from well Barboni-3.

The following programme is based on design well data and lithological prognosis and has to be
considered as reference. The operating cementing programme will be revised on actual well data
Verify the volumetric efficiency of each mud pump to ascertain the practical value of litres/strokes
during displacement.
Verify carefully pumping line circuit is lined up properly and all valves in the correct position
When mixing cement, samples of slurry shall be collected in numbered containers, taken at the
start, middle and end of each type of slurry
Collect mixing water samples and one sample of dry cement from each tank used
In case of missing bump plug, never over displace more than half the shoe track volume
If the float equipment fails, shut-in the well. Monitor the pressure gauge so that the required
pressure can be maintained by bleeding excessive pressure periodically.
In this case, the pressure remaining must not exceed the observed differential pressure between
the mud and the cement.

Reference to ENI E&P Well Control Policy Manual STAP P-1-M-6150, in consideration of GSF
rules, PETROBEL grants the following derogation:
- extend BOP PRESSURE TEST FREQUENCY from 14 days to 21 days as per GSF
Well Control Manual
- new time value for BOP high PRESSURE TEST DURATIONS from “recommended
minimum 10 min” to five minutes duration as per GSF Well Control Manual.
Note maximum pressure drop over this 5 min period is 100psi.
All BOP stacks will be pressure tested at their rated working pressure, prior to use, on test stumps.
Wellhead
Pressure test of Bradenhead must be carried out using hydraulic oil after cooling of the flange and
will not exceed 70% of API 13 3/8" casing collapse pressure.
The pressure test of the casing spool, will not exceed the minimum pressure between 70% of 9 5/8"
CSG collapse pressure and maximum pressure of the 11" flange.
The pressure test of tubing spool, will not exceed the minimum pressure between 70% of 9 5/8"
CSG collapse pressure and maximum pressure of the 11" flange.
