1. A gas turbine unit has a pressure ratio of 6:1 and a maximum cycle temperature of
6000C. The isentropic efficiencies of the compressor and turbine are 0.82 and 0.85
respectively.
Calculate the power output of an electric generator geared to the turbine when the air
enters the compressor at 150C with a mass flow rate of 15 kg/s.
For air cp is 1005 J/kgK and Ɣ is 1.4.
For combustion gas cp is 1110 J/kgK and Ɣ is 1.333. (20 Marks)

2. A single-stage, single-acting air compressor running at 1000rpm delivers air at 25bar.

For this purpose, the induction and free air conditons can be taken as 1.013bar and
150C, and the free air delivery is 0.25m 3/min. The clearance volume is 3% of the swept
volume and the stroke / bore ratio is 1.2/1. The index of compression and expansion are
1.3.
Calculate:
(a) the bore and stroke (05 Marks)
(b) the volumetric efficiency of the machine (05 Marks)
(c) the indicated power (05 Marks)
(d) Isothermal efficiency (05 Marks)
