LESSON N°2: PRESENT PERFECT EXPRESSIONS


We have and use different expressions in The Present Perfect:
1. Already: We use it in affirmative sentences, it goes between the auxiliary verb and the pat
participle of the verb.

Examples:

Mary has already baked a cake.

We have already seen this method.

I have already visited three universities.

2. Since: It is used for a specific time and it indicates that a situation has continued from then until
now.

Examples:

I haven't seen Lacy since 2014.

I haven´t seen him since yesterday.

The company has been in its present location since the beginning of the century.

3. For: It is used for general periods of time for two years, for a long time, for a week....

Examples:

I haven't seen him for two years.

I have lived in London for two years.

They have worked for ten years.

4. Yet: It is used in negative sentences to show that something has not happened up to the present
time. It is also used in interrogative forms to ask if something has happened up to the present
time. It usually comes at the end of the sentence or question.
Examples:

I haven't finished yet.

Have you finished yet?

Have you seen that film yet?

5. Just: It is used in affirmative sentences to indicate that something happened in the immediate
past, that is a very short time ago. It comes between 'have'/ 'has' and the past participle (i.e. the
mid position).
Examples:

He has just called.


I have just started.
She has just won the match.

6. Ever: It is used in interrogative It goes between 'have'/ 'has' and the past participle (i.e. the mid
position).
Examples:

Have you ever been to England?


Has she ever met The Prime Minister?
Have they ever eaten Chinese food?
