Some people believe that native speakers of a language make better translators. Others believe
that being a native speaker isn’t always enough. Subject matter expertise is also key!

Although some people believe that being a native speaker is not always enough for being a good
translator. It is an important factor to consider. In the first place, it is right to say that a native
speaker is going to have a much broader vocabulary and understanding than a non-native. As a
result, a better analysis will be done at the moment of the translation, fulfilling the text as
faithfully as possible. Fidelity is another very important point since it is to transmit the text as
similar concerning the meaning. In other words, it is transmitting the same idea and values
regardless of what culture it is. An idea very famous is the fact that a native speaker will always
be better, since having a better vocabulary, they know more and have more security than a non-
native. This will greatly influence the people in charge of hiring translators. Basically, because
the role of the translator is based on being a bridge between two cultures that cannot do it on
their own. This implies that a translator is sure of the decisions he makes when translating. In
conclusion, although it is possible to be a good translator even if you are not a native, it is not
possible to reach the same level as a native translator. As we have seen, there are many factors
that demonstrate this and as is known, people always choose the most skilled and good.
