CHAPTER TWO

2.0 Introduction
This chapter contains the information about the description of the task carried out in the
attachment, duties and responsibilities carried out challenges and the relationship with the
supervisors of the field attachment.

Description of the Task carried out during the field attachment.

I reported to the garage for my industrial training and I was taken through orientation for
the garage premises, introduced to other garage staffs, the neighbors and how to work
with clients.

I was advised on how to behave and handle tools

The complete services are always recorded in the service card which is rubber stamped
by the service.

A complete service history usually adds up to the resale value of a vehicle.

The maintenance tasks were always conducted during a motor vehicle include the
following.

 Changing engine oil

 Servicing the cylinder head
 Replacing brake linings
 Changing oil filter
 Replacing ball joint
 Replacing tyre rodden
 Changing spark plug
 Servicing spark plug
 Servicing brake pad
 Serving brake piston cylinder

HOW SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES WERE CARRIED OUT.

1 Replacing brake pads and lining

After vehicle is parked in leveled ground, it is then wedged to avoid the motions in front
rear tyres except the one whose whole pads are being replaced, the tyre nuts are then
slack ended and the care jacked up to position until the tyres is just the ground. The nuts
are completely removed and the tyre is removed out.

The brake clipper bolt are untied and opened to expose old pads fully removed out the old
pads and express brake position to give enough clearance to the new pad.

Replace the old pads with new ones and get back to clippers

The care is then put back then fully tightened when the jack is removed and the brake
bleeding is done

2 BRAKE LININGS

After the vehicle has been parked in leveled ground, it is then waged in the rear tyre
except the one linings are to be replace, then removed the fluid is stepped and brake
bleeding is done.

PURPOSE OF LEAF SPRINGS

They are appropriate for taking heavy loads over large areas because they end which may
be several feet apart and for the supervision design that incorporates a solid axle rather
independent, supervision for each well for heavy vehicle such as trucks.

MAINTENANCE.

Occasionally get sticky as its way works its way in between the leafs

The attachment point will need to be checked periodically and lubrically in some cases as
cases as specify by the manual.

Muiti leaf springs of the manufacturer and regular should be carried out.

engine.
Untie the bolt of the top cover but in the diagonal sequence to expose the camshaft.
Untie the nuts on the bearing of the big end of the end knock out the spoilt piston.
Replace with a new piston then push it back the oil sump, then the cylinder head and
camshaft but while applying some small engine oil to act as the a starter lubricant, put
back the top cover of the engine.
Carry back the engine and tie it back to the chassis and the engine timing and pour in new
engine oil filter.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ASSIGNED TO THE TRAINEE AND HOW

THEY WERE CARRIED OUT.
I as given the responsibility of talking car tools at the workshop and sometimes involved
in cleaning the workshop.

I was also assigned responsibility of send the wanted spares parts to others areas e.g. Soroti to
Kampala

NEW KNOWLEDGE GAINED

Knowledge was acquired in various departments and it required a lot in these areas.
 I have gained knowledge in changing engine oils and filters
 I have gained knowledge on changing oil and oil filter.
 Knowledge was gained on changing brake lining and brake pads
 I gained experience on changing clutch plate and pressure plates.
 I am now able to service the clutch system
 Changing and removing vehicle tyres is just walk over now.

 Experience was gained on servings radiator

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER STAFF WITH OTHER STAFFS

There was a good cooperation between the trainees and works department staffs and
supervisors, the supervisors could guide the trainees where need be was also given
enough trust.
PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED AND HOW THEY WERE SOLVED
Long distance from the residence to the workshop which was tiresome hence causing the
delay of the training.

CHAPTER THREE
This chapter talks about the recommendation on how to improve industrial training work,
conclusion, brief summary of knowledge gained from the above challenges it never decreased
my ambition and there was very good improvement in acquiring skills knowledge
simultaneously, it was good opportunity to put in practical and develop further motor vehicle
mechanical skills and organisational skills.

Challenges Faced
Most technical words used in motor vehicle work were not familiar to me.
In the early of the training several accidents were ascertained like cuts on the figures but
with time vigilance on work was increased which accident.
The inadequate tools and equipment the cylinders heads resurfacing machine crankshaft
grinding machine and water jet cleaner which is used to clean the radiator.
In adequate financial support for my daily expenses like transport, meals.
Limited working space due to congestion at the mechanical yard
Inadequate safety guards during operation at the mechanical yard
Inadequate safety guards during operation of some machine like air compressor which
blows dirt from the air cleaner.
Poor sanitation at the mechanical yard, four toilets were shared equally by both female
and male workers.

RECOMMENDATIONS
 Paper waste management should be carried in the yard, rubbish should be collected
together and either burnt or disposed off to keep the yard clean every time.
 Scraps should be removed to give more working space as well as for safety purposes.
 All the necessary tools should be availed and close supervision carried out by
registration of all the tools and corresponding workers using them.
 More safety jets should be acquired especially for air comprehending purposes.
 To improve sanitation of worker at mechanical yard, I recommend that male and
female workers should use separate toilets.

To Institute

The institute should take industrial training seriously as its still part of examination.

The institute should attach students to instructors who supervise them in time to a void
delay in supervision.

CONCLUTION

Despite the fact of the challenges during the industrial training (IT) but was able
complete my industrial training successfully.
