CHEMISTRY PROJECT

EXPERIMENTATION
NATURAL INDICATOR
Aim: to find the following things are added to the turmeric stain
cloth
[a] soap solution, [b] lemon juice, [c] baking soda
Requirements: turmeric solution,a white cloth , soap
solution ,lemon juice, baking soda, dropper
Experimental step:
 Soap test
 Take some small pieces white cloths and dip it
in the turmeric solution and let it dry
 And take some of the soap solution in a
dropper and drop it on the cloth
Observation
 We can see that when the drop of soap solution
fell it becomes reddish brown colour
Result
 It is because turmeric contains an acid [ tartaric
acid ] while soap contains a base [ sodium
hydroxide ] when an acid reacts with a base the
reaction take place and stain os it is basic in
nature
 Lemon juice test
 Take a piece from the cloths that is already dry
with the turmeric solution
 And take some of lemon juice in a dropper and
drop it on the cloth
Observation
 We can see that it not changing colour of
the cloth
Result
 When turmeric solution is added to acid
then there will be no change in colour
because the lemon juice is acidic in nature
 Baking soda test
 Take a cloth form previous that has left in
test
 And some baking soda and dissolve it in
half cup of water
 And take it in the dropper and drop it in
cloth
Observation
 We can obseva that it is change the to
deep red of the cloth
Result
 Turmeric is an acid we know that and
baking soda is a base so it reacts and
change colour
 Conclusion
