UNIVERSAL TESTING MACHINE
I. RAW DATA:
II. DISCUSSION:
A Universal Testing Machine, also known as Universal Tester, is an instrument so designed that
it is capable of exerting a tensile, compressive, or transverse stress on a specimen under test. Further, it
can be adapted for the determination of Brinell hardness, ductility, cold bend, and other properties. The
machine consists essentially of three systems: loading, weighing, and indicating, the loading being
applied either mechanically or hydraulically. It is also used to test both the tensile and compressive
strength of materials. The machine has been named so because of the wide range of tests it can perform
over different kind of materials. It is a versatile and valuable piece of testing equipment that can evaluate
materials properties such as tensile strength, elasticity, compression, yield strength, elastic and plastic
Universal Testing Machines can accommodate many kinds of materials, ranging from hard
samples, such as metals and concrete, to flexible samples, such as rubber and textiles. This diversity
makes the Universal Testing Machine equally applicable to virtually any manufacturing industry.
Different models of Universal Testing Machines have different load capacities, some as low as 5kN and
others as high as 2,000kN. The machine is composed of measuring system, drive system, control system
and computer (computer system type tensile testing machine) and other structures.

IV. CONCLUSION:
To sum up, Universal Testing Machine or UTM, can perform a wide range of testing
where it evaluates materials’ properties such as tensile strength, elasticity, compression, yield
strength, elastic and plastic deformation, bend compression, and strain hardening. It has different
models that can hold different capacities or load, which can be used in various materials.
