Waukesha gas engines Intake/Exhaust Systems

Plumbing Schematic for Crankcase Breather Ejector System — 16 Cylinder

NOTES:
1. It is important that the pressure at the ejector outlet does not exceed the maximum allowable engine exhaust back
pressure limits per S-7567. High exhaust back pressure levels will result in unsatisfactory ejector breather system
operation. If the engine exhaust muffler restriction is excessively high, it may be necessary to connect the ejector outlet
into the exhaust pipe downstream from the muffler.
2. Ejector outlet tubing should be 3 in. outside diameter. Connect this tubing into the side of the exhaust stack a minimum of
4 ft. downstream from the converter or silencer (see View A). Do not connect into the bottom side of a horizontal exhaust
pipe. Avoid connecting into a vertical run of exhaust pipe directly above the converter or silencer. (Oil reduces the life
and/or efficiency of the device). Slope the 3 in. tubing so any condensed oil inside will tend to run back toward the
extractor and not into the exhaust stack. Avoid low spots in horizontal piping into which condensed vapors can settle and
cause blockage. In long horizontal pipe runs it may be necessary to provide a simple sump in the piping, from which
condensed vapor (liquid) can be drained.
3. Before starting a new engine for the first time, back the extractor adjusting screw off the seat approximately 1-1/2 turns
counterclockwise. After starting the engine observe crankcase pressure on a water manometer. Adjust the extractor to
obtain 0 to 1 in. negative crankcase pressure under normal operating conditions.
