III. LET’S DIG DEEPER

Observe the picture on the left. What comes

to your mind after seeing the image?

You can see that a cat is seeing itself as a lion

by which we can say in reality, they possess
different qualities and behavior. The cat is
aiming to be someone as mighty.
The situation of a cat is the same with what
humans aspire too. We want to be someone
that we want to be.

Your ideal self is the version of yourself that you

wish to be. It's the one that you're hoping to have
the qualities similar to those of a mentor or other
worldly figure.
Your real self, on the other hand, is the one you
see. It is the self that possesses traits that you were
raised with or, in certain situations, were born with.

These two are the categories of Self-concept.

Self-concept refers to self-awareness. It denotes that

the ideal self is different from the others and it surrounds
all the behaviors assessed in the actual or real self that
you are in involving in for you to reach your ideal self.

The actual self is built on self-knowledge. Self

knowledge is developed from social interactions, which reveal how others react to
you. Our actual selves are who we truly are. It is the way we think, feel, look, and
behave. Others can see the actual self, but we have no way of genuinely knowing
how others see us, thus the actual self is our self-image.

The ideal self on the other hand, is the kind of person we want to be. It's an idealized
version of ourselves that we've created over time based on everything we've
learned and experienced. What our parents taught us, what we admire in others,
what our society encourages, and what we believe is in our best interests could all
be part of our ideal self.
There is a negotiation about the two selves. It all matters to the social roles, and came
from the result of social interactions from infant to adult development.

Alignment in these two selves is important. If the way that I am and the way that I
want to be are aligned, therefore, you will experience the sense of mental well
being and peace of mind. If it goes the opposite, then you will feel the sense of
mental distress or anxiety. The greater the level of imbalance the greater the level
of distress.

The purpose of this module is for you to achieve the alignment of the two selves.

PERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS

Personal effectiveness refers to

maximizing your personal resources, such as
abilities, skills, energy, and time, in order to
attain your life goals. Being self-aware,
utilizing your strengths, learning new skills and
techniques and behavioral flexibility are keys
to your personal performance’s
improvement.
Skills also determine whether real actions are
performed in accordance with the plan. If
the same ability is used many times in the
same situation, then it becomes a habit that
runs automatically, subconsciously.
Here are several abilities that will considerably improve the productivity of anyone who
possesses them:
1. Determination - It lets you concentrate solely on completing a specific objective,
rather than getting sidetracked by less significant issues or impulsive wants. It can
be cultivated by self-discipline training.

2. Self-confidence - It appears as a result of becoming more conscious of yourself,

your actions, and their effects during the process of personal development.
Speech, look, attire, gait, and physical condition all reflect self-assurance. To
build it, you must first learn about yourself and your talents, cultivate a positive
mindset, and believe that by taking the appropriate steps and accomplishing
the proper goals, you can achieve your goals.

3. Persistence - It motivates you to keep pushing forward despite the presence of

barriers such as issues, laziness, or a negative mental state. It lowers the cost of
overcoming challenges. It can also be cultivated through self-discipline training.

4. Stress management. It aids in the reduction of stress caused by the environment

and other people in daily life. Stress is caused by the uncertainty of an unknown
circumstance in which there is a danger of bad effects from your actions due to
a lack of information. In a constantly changing environment, it improves
efficiency.

5. Possessing problem-solving abilities. They assist in dealing with issues that arise as a
result of a lack of experience. When gaining new experience, it boosts
efficiency by adopting new approaches of completing goals.

6. Creativity. It enables you to come up with novel approaches to carry out a given
action that no one else has thought of. It might lead to a drop or increase in
expenditures, but when applying innovative tools, the pace of action is usually
substantially boosted.

BUILD ON YOUR OWN STRENGTH AND WORK ON YOUR WEAKNESSES

We experience failure because of our weaknesses that we didn’t give attention.

This could be a communication, personality, or ability problem. Take action instead
of giving up or wallowing in self-pity. Attend speaking classes, skill development
sessions, or personality development sessions, or whatever other cures are suited for
your apparent weakness.
Do not focus on you weakness, focus on you skills and talents instead and utilize
them to the extent of your capabilities. This is where you can build your image to the
society. We put Mister Jose Feliciano and other blind people who are considered
handicapped but with golden voices. They utilize their talents and that they won
international fame in the music field.

YOU NEED TO TAKE CHARGE OF YOU FUTURE

There are three kinds of people in the world.
The moviegoer, the actor and the scriptwriter.

The moviegoer. This person is watching the movie of their life and praising some
scenes while criticizing others. They don't do anything else but that. She spends the
entire day saying, "I like this, but I don't like that." The moviegoer believes she has no
control over their lives other than to comment on them. Moviegoers are the most
pitiful, unhappy individuals on the planet.

The Actor- this person does not only watch the movie of her life. She realizes she’s
the actor. She is aware that she is the Actor, and that she has influence over a
significant portion of her life. She can actually make or break the movie but at the
end she cannot change whatever is planned to be the ending. In short this person
will just only go with what life gives.

The Scriptwriter- This person actually creates the movie of her life. She has the
control over everything that she does. She seeks to make the movie of her life
beautiful.
Question:
1. Who are you among these three?
2. Do you merely watch your life?
3. Do you act out a script that you feel has been handed to you?
4. Do you write the script and make your life beautiful?
Above all God is the producer and He tells you, “Make the movie beautiful, and I
will give you all that you need for success.”
