C. LESSON WRAP-UP

Summary:
Human rights in the Philippines are protected by the Constitution of the Philippines, to make
sure that persons in the Philippines are able to live peacefully and with dignity, safe from the abuse of
any individuals or institutions, including the state. In the Philippines, we have RA 10368, Human Rights
Victims Reparation and Recognition Act of 2013.
The concept of "human rights," in the context of the Philippines, pertains mainly (but is not
limited) to the civil and political rights of a person living in the Philippines. Human rights are a justified
set of claims that set moral standards to members of the human race, not exclusive to a specific
community or citizenship.[5] Membership in the human race is the sole qualification to obtain these
rights.

Q2. Why is it important to protect human rights?

Answer: Human rights are basic rights that belong to all of us simply because we are human. They
embody key values in our society such as fairness, dignity, equality and respect. Most importantly,
these rights give us power and enable us to speak up and to challenge poor treatment from a public
authority.
