12.3.7 Fusing belt steering mechanism

(1) OUTLINE
• In order to adjust the tilt of the fusing belt, the fusing belt steering mechanism is provided.

(2) Mechanism
• The fusing belt position sensor/1 (PS92) [7], the fusing belt position sensor/2 (PS93) [5], and the fusing belt position sensor/3 (PS94) [4]
always monitor the centering of the fusing belt [2] via the fusing steering actuator [6].
• The fusing belt steering motor (M63) [8] rotates in the forward or reverse direction depending on the position of the fusing belt, and the
steering cam [12] rotates.
• In order to move the fusing belt to the front [14], M63 rotates in the forward direction and rotates the steering cam in the forward direction.
• In order to move the fusing belt to the rear [13], M63 rotates in the reverse direction and rotates the steering cam in the reverse direction.
• When the steering cam rotates, the heating roller [3] rotates around the fulcrum pin [1].
• Drives the fusing belt at a slant while the heating roller is tilted, and moves the fusing belt to the proper position.
• The drive shaft of the steering cam is equipped with the steering cam actuator [9]. The steering cam actuator, the fusing belt steering
home sensor/1 (PS95) [11], and the fusing belt steering home sensor/2 (PS96) [10] control the rotation of the steering cam.

(3) Fusing belt mis-centering detection control

• By the combination of the activation and the deactivation of the fusing belt position sensor/1 (PS92) [5] and the fusing belt position sensor/
2 (PS93) [2], the skew direction and the skew amount of the fusing belt is judged.
• There are 4 conditions for the combinations of ON or OFF of each sensor.
• The rotation direction and the number of the rotation steps of the fusing belt steering motor (M63) is controlled depending on the
condition.
• The fusing belt position sensor/3 (PS94) [1] detects the centering abnormality of the fusing belt. When PS94 becomes inactive, an
abnormality code occurs.

(4) Initial operation

• The initial operation of the steering control is performed after the jam is released when the main power is active.
• After the initial operation is completed, every heater and motors start to operate.
• The fusing belt steering motor (M63) rotates until the fusing belt steering home sensor/1 (PS95) becomes inactive from active.
• At this time, the fusing belt position sensor/1 (PS92) and the fusing belt position sensor/2 (PS93) detect the position of the fusing belt.
• M63 rotates for specified amount depending on the position of the fusing belt.

12.3.8 Fusing swing control

(1) Outline
• The fusing oscillating mechanism is equipped for the following purposes.
• Prevent the edge scratch which occurs on the fusing belt when it conveys the paper.
• Prevent the trail of the fusing separating claw on the lower pressure roller.
• The fusing unit oscillates by the oscillating mechanism. However, the fusing paper exit guide assy with the fusing separation claw does
not oscillate.
• During printing, oscillates the fusing unit in the main scan direction between papers. Papers do not pass the same position on the fusing
belt. Therefore, edge scratches are prevented.
• During the warm-up or the idling, oscillates the fusing unit in the main scan direction periodically. The fusing separation claw does not
contact at the same position of the lower pressure roller. Therefore, trails on the fusing separation claw is prevented.

(2) Fusing unit oscillating drive

• The fusing paper exit guide assy [8] inside the fusing unit [1] is not fixed in the main scan direction. Therefore, the fusing unit and the
fusing paper exit guide assy move independently in the main scan direction.
• The fusing unit is fixed on the fusing positioning plate [7]. The fusing positioning plate oscillates in the back and forth direction on the base
plate [6].
• The fusing swing motor (M50) [4] is equipped under the base plate. When the oscillation cam [3] rotates by M50, the fusing unit that is
fixed on the fusing positioning plate oscillates.
• When M50 rotates in the forward direction, the fusing unit moves to the rear side. When M50 rotates in the reverse direction, the fusing
unit moves to the front side.
• The fusing swing home sensor (PS65) [5] detects the home position.
• The fusing unit oscillates for approximately 0.1 mm on each paper.
• The oscillation range is from -5 mm to +5 mm.
• You can select whether to perform the fusing oscillation control or not by the DIPSW36-1.
