A. LESSON PREVIEW/REVIEW
1) Introduction.
House drain and sewer are the terminal of soil stack. It is provided to convey the waste water to the
septic tank. Its importance is proper sizing and proper slope to avoid problems like clogging.
B.MAIN LESSON
1) Activity 2: Content Notes (13 mins)
House drain is that portion of the plumbing system that receives discharges of all soil and waste stacks
within the building, and conveys the same to the house sewer.
c. Storm drain
d. Industrial drain
Industrial Drain – is a house drain that receives discharges from industrial equipment that
contain some objectionable acid wastes. Industrial drain that contains acid waste terminates into
a separate drainage basin.
Storm Drain – conveys all storm clear water, or surface water waste except sanitary wastes.
Storm drain terminates into lake, river, dry run or natural basin.
House sewer is defined as, that portion of horizontal drainage system, which starts from the outer face
of the building and terminate at the main sewer in the street or septic tank.
Other code defined House Sewer as, that portion of the horizontal drainage system, which starts 90cm
from the outer face of the building. House sewer is sometimes called the Building Sewer.
Sample Problem:
Determine the size of House drain and house sewer 2% slope to served four typical floor plan
(2nd to fifth floor) that will served: 3 water closet(public), 5 urinals (wall mounted, integral trap,
trap arm only), 3 lavatories(single), 4 showers (single stall), and 2 slop sinks, 2 floor drains in
each floor level.
⮚ Referring to Table B, under column 2% slope, 150mm pipe could serve 300 fixture
units.
⮚ For 216 fixture units, specify 150mm diameter house drain and house sewer.
2) Activity 3: Skill-building Activities (with answer key) (18 mins + 2 mins checking)

1. It is a type of house drain that receives discharges of sanitary waste as well as storm
drain. This is the oldest form of house drain when public sewers are of the combination design.
2. It conveys all storm clean water, or surface water waste except sanitary wastes. It
terminates into lake, river, dry run or natural basin.
3. It is type of house drain receives the discharges of sanitary and domestic waste only.
The waste is conveyed to a public sewer or septic tank by the house sewer.
4. It is defined as, that portion of horizontal drainage system, which starts from the outer
face of the building and terminate at the main sewer in the street or septic tank.
5. It is a house drain that receives discharges from industrial equipment that contain
some objectionable acid wastes.
6. It is the portion of the plumbing system that receives discharges of all soil and waste
stacks within the building, and conveys the same to the house sewer.
7. Minimum diameter of house drain or house sewer that has 2 water closets.
8. Proper slope of house drain
9. It is installed at every 20m interval distance, and also at the base of all soil and waste
stack.
10. Under 2% slope column, 200mm house drain could serve how many fixture units?
C. LESSON WRAP-UP
1) Activity 6: Thinking about Learning (5 mins)
Mark your place in the work tracker which is simply a visual to help students track how much work they
have accomplished and how much work there is left to do.

TEACHER-LED ACTIVITIES
{These are standard instructions for teachers.}
A. If this session happens to be a face-to-face, in-classroom learning session:
1) Collect completed work in the SAS.
2) Allocate your contact time with students to individual or small group mentoring, monitoring, and
student consultations.
3) You may administer summative assessments (quizzes, demonstrations, graded recitation,
presentations, performance tasks) during face-to-face sessions.
4) You may also explore supplementary activities that foster collaboration, provided that social
distancing is observed.
5) You may provide supplementary content via videos, etc.
It is important to remember that students who cannot make it to face-to-face, in-classroom sessions for
health and safety reasons, should not be given lower grades for missing in-class activities and should
be given alternative summative tests.
