Aziz Sir Water Supply Assignment
Aziz Sir Water Supply Assignment
Introduction
The primary component of Earth's hydrosphere and the fluids of all known living things is water
(H2O), an inorganic chemical that is clear, tasteless, odorless, and almost colorless (in which it
acts as a solvent. Despite not providing food, energy, or organic micronutrients, it is essential
for all known forms of life. Water is the most important element of our life. Without water a
man cannot live for a second. We use water for various purpose. We use it for drinking,
washing dishes, clothes, cooking, bathing, etc. As there is huge necessity of water and there is
not enough fresh water, its necessary to manage water and supply it to people.
Water supply refers to the provision of water by government agencies, private businesses,
nonprofit organizations, local initiatives, or by individuals, typically through a network of pumps
and pipes. Systems for providing public water are essential to the smooth operation of society.
These systems provide drinking water to people all around the world. Consistency of supply,
water quality, and water pressure are examples of service quality factors. Varied nations and
areas have different institutional arrangements for managing water supply (urban versus rural).
Typically, it covers topics like service delivery, standardization, and policy and regulatory
challenges.
A network of hydrologic and hydraulic components that are constructed to supply water is
known as a water supply system or water supply network. A drainage basin, raw water
collection point, water purification facilities, additional water pressurizing components, a pipe
network for distributing water to users, and connection to sewage systems are typical
components of a water supply system (underground pipes or aboveground ditches).
A crucial component of the network is the water supply, which is used for both industrial and
utility reasons. Another sector entirely controlled by entities with ties to the government is
water supply management. The water footprint of operations carried out in the industrial
sector can be decreased by reliable water resources. Some key points for water supply
management are: quality and reliability, water hygiene, sanitation and treatment of waste
water, safety planning, industries, monitoring, limited usage.
My study area:
For the past 1 month I have been given a seat in the First Ladies Hall (Shahid Janani Jahanara
Imam Hall) of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. As I am staying here my study
area is the first ladies hall of my university. Which is located beside the central library and
Academic Building-D of SUST.

First ladies Hall is divided into 2 wings in a diamond shape and the middle part is hollow with a
yard. The yard is divided by a walkway which connects the two wings. Each wing has 2 blocks;
so in total 4 blocks: block A, block B, block C and block D. Block A and B are on same wing and
block C and D are on the opposite wing shaped like a diamond. I am currently living in the first
floor of block A. The water supply system of Block A and Block C is connected together and
Block B and D is connected together.

Filtration chamber: There is a filtration chamber near the storage tank on the yard. The
filtration chamber is connected with the two primary storage tanks. With the help of a pump
inside the chamber water from the two primary storage tank is taken to the filtration chamber.
The raw water which was extracted before is filtered in these chambers. Mostly the iron is
filtered there as the water contains high amount of iron particles. Other impurities are also
filtered in this chambers. There are two filtration machine for filtering the water from two
primary storage tank and supply that water to secondary storage tank.
Conclusion:
Compared to earlier civilizations, modern civilization is significantly more reliant on water.
Together with contemporary medical research, modern water supply engineering has
decreased mortality rates and raised life expectancy. More water is needed today than was
needed even a century ago to maintain the same standard of living. A growing population
necessitates increased focus on sewage, storm drainage, and water supply. Water is being used
more and more in process industries, for the creation of steam, and for the generation of
electric power, according to Industrial Progress. Water supply engineering's focus changes
more or less consistently and continuously.
