1
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my

English teacher ‘Mrs. Anita Abraham’ who gave me the golden
opportunity to do this wonderful project which helped me
increase my knowledge about my environment and
conversational skills.

I would also like to thank my teammates who cooperated

with me to help finish this project within the limited time and
various authorities which allowed us to film the first half of the
interview in a public place.

CONTENTS

3
OBJECTIVE

• To film a mock interview on the topic : “Causes and Effects of

Climate Change”.
• To learn about the topic thoroughly before filming the interviews
and responsibly providing valid opinions, facts and solutions for
Climate Change.
• To improve my knowledge about Climate Change and
conversational skills.

4
PLAN OF ACTION

• When we received the details of the topic, we immediately

discussed how the roles should be divided and chose to research
according to our roles.
• Our group chose to state a mixture of facts and personal opinions
based on scientific proofs and realistic views in the mock interview
which was to be recorded. We took help of multiple websites, and
educational videos/interviews available on the internet to serve as
the basis of our interview.
• We took turns to interview the mock scientists and geologists
which were played by our group and one member played the sole
interviewer. We also took turns in recording the members’
interview.
• Two of the interviewees played researchers on antarctica and had
to be interviewed over online meetings.
• A park was chosen to film the interviews and were compiled by
another member of the group.
• The interviews were all shot on 14th of October, 2022, starting form
11 am to winding up at 2pm of the same day.

CLIMATE CHANGE

What is Climate Change?

Climate change refers to the long-term shifts in temperature and weather patterns
of a specific area/region.
*******
Climate change is not a recent issue but people didn’t know much about climate
change until quite recent times. But suddenly in the past few years there has been
a buzz about activism and protests against climate change but it takes more than
that to stop such a vast process and heal its lingering after-effects. Just a few people
can’t stop climate change, we need everyone to consult the people who actually
understand climate change and are researching methods to stop it.

Causes of Climate Change:

• Generation of power from burning fossil fuels – The combustion of fossil
fuels produces a mixture of harmful gases ranging from carbon monoxide to
Sulphur oxides.
• Usage of Chloro-Fluoro-Carbons (CFCs) in aerosols and refrigerators – CFCs
are very reactive and react with the ozone layer and form ozonides which
settle down near the surface of the earth, depleting ozone layer in the
process.
• Global Warming and Green House effect – Both of them collectively are the
main reason behind long-term climate change, essentially in long-term
temperature shifts.
• Depletion of the ozone layer – The depletion of ozone layer near the equator
and near the poles has led to higher intensity of sunlight in those regions
leading to hotter summers and colder winters.
• Burning the residue after harvest – It is the source of thick mixture of gases
which can lead to smog and other forms of air pollution, leading to drastic
variations in temperatures.

6
• Generation of power from burning Petro-chemicals – Just like burning fossil
fuels, burning Petro-chemicals also leads to global warming and production
of various harmful gases.

The Lasting Effects of Climate Change:

The basic aftereffect of climate change is the permanent change in the climate of a
place. Though the short-term impacts are awful, the long-term impacts of climate
change and global warming are even more dangerous and after crossing the tipping
point, these long-term changes may take place within a short span of time, such as
a shutdown of various ocean currents like the AMOC and deal irreversible damage
to the ecosystem. Ice masses such as Antarctica may lose their existence
permanently. There also have been many instances of desertification in parts of
Northern Africa and cases of snowfall in the Middle East, both of them being highly
unlikely naturally.

Impact of Climate Change on Human Lives:

Rise or decline in temperature, change in the precipitation levels and
patterns, lead to increase in the sea-level and unprecedented precipitation and
desertification, which in turn affect all of the ecosystem and humans are no
exceptions in this case. So, climate change wouldn’t affect humans much directly
but in the long run it will affect us too as climate is linked with the basic needs of
humans such as agriculture, mining, fishing, transportation, and the weather
conditions of a specific place. Countries in the subcontinent never encounter
tornadoes and water spouts but lately there have been possibilities of such
disasters occurring here as well. Coastlines will recede and the people dwelling in
coastal regions will lose their livelihoods. Crop failure, lack of transportation
facilities, reduction in fishing would inevitably lead to an acute shortage of food,
resulting in undernutrition and even death in many cases.
Another big after-effect of climate change and global warming is the altering
of precipitation patterns and levels. Cities like Bhopal and Prayagraj used to receive
moderate amounts of rain each year but this year the amount of rainfall they
received resulted in flooding, whereas a few north African cities like Mali, Ghana

7
received no to low rainfall and resulted in desertification and both of these
instances equally affected the livelihood of people living the given places/regions.

Impact of Climate Change on Flora and Fauna:

It’s no surprise that plant and animal life is struggling for survival, more and
more so with every passing day. It is not an understatement to say that all the
species of life on the planet right now, have their existence jeopardized
indiscriminately due to climate change. But the worst hit out of all will be endemic
species and they’ll even be the first ones to be endangered due to climate change.
Heat waves, melting glaciers, intense droughts, rising sea levels, floods and
warming oceans directly harm animals and plants. Plant lives will be utterly
destroyed, either due to too much water or no water at all, due to too much
sunlight or no sunlight at all. This will affect the entire food chain and in the end
animal life will also fall prey to climate change. Loss of vegetation, food sources,
access to water and much more would lead to destruction of animal life.

Solutions for Climate Change:

Since burning of fossil fuels and Petro-chemicals leads to climate change, we
need to reduce the consumption of power as much as we can, as currently there is
no fuel which can completely replace fossil fuels and Petro-chemicals. Switching to
electric/public means of transport or prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists, LED light
bulbs and energy efficient electric appliances, usage of cold water and switching to
sustainable technicalities as much as possible are the only solutions as of now.
We should consult scientists for solutions and help for a crisis as huge as
climate change.

CONCLUSION l

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, and to feel that climate change is too big
to solve. But we already have solutions, now it’s a question of making
them happen. To work, all of these solutions need strong international
cooperation between governments and businesses, including the most
polluting sectors.
Individuals can also play a part by making better choices about where
they get their energy from, how they travel, and what food they eat. But
the best way for anyone to help stop climate change is to take collective
action. This means persuading governments and corporations to change
their policies and business practices.
Governments want to be re-elected; businesses want their customers.
Demanding right actions from them is a powerful way to make change
happen.

10
ROLES AND CONTRIBUTION

Every member researched around the expertise of the character they

were portraying, i.e., the ones who played scientists (Aditya Vijay and
Advik Shivakumar) researched the scientific explanations and solutions
for climate change, the ones who played the geologist and ecologist
(Gunjan Pradhan and Aditya Pandey respectively) researched the
impacts of climate change on Flora and Fauna. The interviewer (Udit
Negi) prepared all the questions and the interviewees answered based
on their own personal research. The report was compiled collectively and
the video was edited by Aditya Vijay.
