Introduction: Elements can be classified in several ways, according to the similarities and differences in their
properties. Two major classes of elements are metals and nonmetals. Everyday experience has given you some
knowledge of metallic and nonmetallic properties.
Testable Question: Will we be able to classify an element as a metal or a nonmetal based on its physical and
chemical properties alone?
