I. Introduction

Many students lack the motivation to complete assignments or displays lack of

confidence in their academic abilities. However, what is most interesting is that
students are far more capable than they perceive themselves to be. This problem is the
reason for the investigation. The research is about the performance of Grade 10 –
Plato in Quiz #1 for the Fourth Quarter which has a total score of 17 points. This
research will help identify the performance of each section, whether several students
passed or fail the test and the percentile rank of selected students in Mathematics
Quiz #1 for the Fourth Quarter. This research will allow them to see how well
students in Grade 10 – Plato performed on Quiz #1 and to reflect whether they ought
to improve or just simply be consistent.

II. Problem

1. Performance of Grade 10 students in Mathematics Quiz #1 for the Fourth Quarter.

a.) What is the performance of Grade 10 – Plato in Mathematics Quiz #1 for the
Fourth Quarter?
b.) How many students passed the Mathematics Quiz #1, if the passing score
belongs to the Third Quartile?
c.) What is the Percentile Rank of each member of the group in Mathematics
Quiz #1?

III. Presentation and Discussion of Data

Table 1: Frequency and Discussion Table on the Performance of Grade 10 – Plato in

Mathematics Quiz #1 for the Fourth Quarter

Class Interval Tally f x fx <cf
Boundary

14-15 l 1 14.5 14.5 36 13.5-15.5
12-13 llll 5 12.5 62.5 35 11.5-13.5

2-3 l 1 2.5 2.5 1 1.5-3.5
N=37 ∑fx=296.5
Discussion: For table 1, it shows the tally and frequency of scores of students who belong in
each interval in the class. The total number of students in this class is 37 and majority of
scores falls on the interval of 8-9 points out of 17 total points. The summation of the product
of frequency and the mean is 296.5.

Table 2: Shows the passing score belongs to the Third Quartile in Grade 10 – Plato

Quartile No. of Lower Cumulative Frequency Interval Quartile

Class Students Boundary Frequency of the (i) (Qk)
(n) (Lb) Before(<cfb) Quartile
Class (fQk)
27.75 37 7.5 18 11 2 9.28

Discussion: For table 2, it shows that the third quartile falls on 9.28 which means that in
order to pass, the scores of the students should be equal to 9.28 or more. Looking at the data
on table 1, the frequency from the scores of 10 points up were 8 therefore we can say that
only 22% passed the Quiz #1 examination.

Table 3: Shows the Percentile Rank of each member of the group:

Name Score Percentile Rank

Uno, Dos Tres 9 78%
Quatro, Siengko Siengko 11 81%
Sies, Siete Otso 7 43%

Discussion: For table 3, we have the following interpretation:

a.) 78% is lower than 9.

b.) 81% is lower than 11.
c.) 43% is lower than 7.

IV. Conclusion and Recommendation

Based on the result, it was affirmed that Grade 10 – Plato performance got a lower
percent of mastery level on Quiz no. 1 for the Fourth Quarter. In the event that the
passing score falls on the third quartile, 22% would pass and 78% of the students will
fail. This means that the students in Grade 10 – Plato should improve their grades and
be more motivated in completing the task and study more for their Mathematics 10.
