Based in divisibility rule for 2 shown


above, here are the steps:

Step 1: Look at the last digit of a number.

42 2 is the last digit.

Step 2: Determine the last digit if it is an even number.


42 2 is an even number.

Therefore, 42 is divisible by 2.

Example 2.

Is 346 divisible by 2?

Yes!
Why?

First, I look at the last digit of a number


which is 6.

346 6 is the last digit

Second, I determine that the 6 is an even


number.

Therefore, 346 is divisible by 2.

Why?

Step 1, I look at the last digit of a number which is


5.

Step 2, I found out that 5 is an odd number.

Therefore, 1, 365 is not divisible by 2.

Is 50 divisible by 5?

Let’s use the divisibility rule for 5


to find if 50 is divisible by 5.

Step 1: Look at the last digit of a number.


50 0 is the last digit.

Step 2: Determine the last digit if it ends in 5 or 0.

Therefore, 50 is divisible by 5.

Is 485 divisible by 5?

Yes!
Why?

First, I look at the last digit of a number.

485 5 is the last digit

Second, I determine the last digit is 5.

Therefore, 485 is divisible by 5.

Why?

First, I look at the last digit of a number which is 7.

1, 587 7 is the last digit

Second, I found out that the last digit is not 5 or 0.

Therefore, 1, 587 is not divisible by 5.

Is 60 divisible by 10?

Let’s use the divisibility rule for 10 to find if


60 is divisible by 10?

Step 1: Look at the last digit of a number.


60 0 is the last digit.

Step 2: Determine the last digit if it ends in zero.


60 0 is the last digit.

Therefore, 60 is divisible by 10.

Is 2,450 divisible by 10?


Yes!

Why?

First, I looked at the last digit of a number which is 0.


2,450 0 is the last digit
Second, I determined the last digit if it is 0.
Therefore, 2,450 is divisible by 10.

No!
Why?

First, I looked at the last digit of a number which is 5.


565 5 is the last digit
Second, I learned that the last digit should be 0 to be
divisible by 10 but I found out that the last digit is 5.
Great! Therefore, 565 is not divisible by 10.

Here is another way of getting the common factors of a number by using the
divisibility rules for 3 and 6.

Remember: Divisible means that a number can be divided equally


into another number.

In the previous activity, you grouped the pupils by 3. Now, here is another way to find
if the 30 pupils can be divided equally by 3 through using the divisibility rule.

see if 27 is divisible by 9.

Step 2: Add all the digits of the number 3 + 4 + 3 = 10 ----- 10 is the sum of the digits
Step 3: Divide 10 by 9 if it is divisible by 9. 10 ÷ 9 = 1.11----- 10 is not divisible by 9
because there is a remainder.
Therefore, 343 is not divisible by 9.
