Discussion

We use our ears to process auditory information created by then noise and
sounds that we listen and hear around us. Sound evokes us to respond and
react in ways our eyes cannot see.
AUDIO INFORMATION AND MEDIA
Audio media these are the tools used to record, deliver, and reproduce
sound for communication, educational, and entertainment purposes.
Audio information pertains to any sound that catches by the ear and
processed by the brain. Audio information can be any of the following:
1. TV and Radio broadcast. It pertains to live or recorded audio by
transmitting waves to reach the mass audience.

2. Music. It refers to sounds produced by instruments or human voice that


conveys creative expression.

3. Dialog or conversation. It is an exchange of ideas between the people


who are talking.

4. Lecture or Talk. It is formal in nature because the speaker delivers


informative ideas, theories, research, or studies before an audience.

5. Podcast. It is a digital audio file that is downloadable to a digital device
like a computer and a mobile phone.

Ways of Storing Audio Media

There are numerous ways of storing audio media:

1. Cassette tape. It is based on a magnetic made of a long narrow strip of


plastic film. Items like cassette and VHS tapes provide home entertainment
especially during the 1980s because it is small and cheap.

2. Compact disc (CD). It is a circular object used record and playback audio
files, and store computer data. Like a cassette, a CD is small and portable.

3. Thumb drive. It has flash memory that can be connected to a computer


or a device with a USB port. USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. Most
computer peripherals like keyboards, printers, and network adapters are
designed with a USB interface to connect to personal computers.

4. Memory card. It is a cartridge used to store digital information for


portable devices like digital cameras, cellphones, and alike.

5. Hard drive. It is a magnetic storage device that contains moving parts


like a spinning plate and an enclosure. It has a storage capacity that can
hold up to a terabyte or more of data.

6. Online storage. It is an increasingly popular way to store data via the


internet or the cloud. It serves as a good back up and commonly used for file
sharing.

Evaluating Audio Information


1. Sound quality. This is vital factor in audio information because it can
affect the quality of the sound. The volume should be loud enough for the
listener to hear but not too loud that it would be regarded as noise and
damage the ears.

2. Voice quality. Proper diction, pronunciation, accent, inflection,


intonation could result to better understanding of the message between the
sender and the receiver.

3. Type of content. The kind of music should be appropriate with the


content. For example, if someone is reading a children’s book, then he
should have a soft quality of voice.

Advantages of Audio Information

1. It is easier to process since the information is already communicated


verbally.

2. The audience pays more attention in the information, making it easier to
grasp the content.

3. Audio information is much faster to relay since it can be said orally.

Disadvantages of Audio Information

1. Retention of information could be difficult since the details were relayed


orally.

2. The audience can be easily distracted if the sound is not audible.

3. The one who will relay the information should be good speaker, and the
receiver should have good command of that language to understand the
information.
