That is an interesting concept. Let’s proceed now on our first topic for this
quarter. Information can come in various ways. To interpret the information, we use
our senses. Like reading, we use our eyes to uncover the message. our nose to identify
the scents. Our ears to hear and listen to gather information. Before we proceed to
the explanation part, let’s have an activity first.
Great job! You got the information even with the limited information shown
on the report and relying only with what you have listened.
That’s nice to hear! Now, let us learn how important listening is.
Did you know that the first form of literature in the Philippines is through
oral? Elders in a community tend to pass the stories to new generation by telling a
story. Their way of sharing is to teach children moral, as well as to pass their cultural
beliefs.
Your ears can hear and listen, but what is the difference of the two. Hearing
is the act of perceiving and receiving waves or vibration using your ears. Listening,
on the other hand, does not just hear a sound, but also elicits understanding. It
requires concentration to understand what you hear unlike hearing which takes place
without even trying.
When you were watching the news reports, you were able to understand what
it was about without reading information that can be read. This is because you use
your ears to convey details that can be helpful.
When you listen for specific information, you need to have some idea of what
you’re listening to before you listen and while you’re listening. As you listen, you need
to recognize when the information is about to be given and pay close attention at
Open your books on page 4 and read Listening for Specific Information and
