CESSNA AIRCRAFT COMPANY MODEL 310R MAINTENANCE MANUAL ‘SUPPLEMENTAL INSPECTION NUMBER: 57-10-05 TITLE Lower Rear Carry-Thru Spar Cap EFFECTIVITY 340R0001 Thru 310R2140 INSPECTION COMPLIANCE TYPICAL: — INITIAL 18,000 Hours Or 20 Years REPEAT 1,000 Hours or 3 Years PURPOSE Detailed inspection of the fastener holes through the lower rear carry-thru spars for cracks due to fatigue, overload, and corrosion INSPECTION INSTRUCTIONS A. Obtain applicable Service Bulletins, Service Information Letters and/or Service Kits from Cessna Aircraft Company. B. Install access panels as described in applicable Service Bulletin, Service Information Letter, andlor Service Kit. ©. Upon initial inspection and every fifth subsequent inspection, remove fting from airplane, Refer to the Maintenance Manual, (1) Inspect spar and fitting for corrosion, (2) If corrosion is found on the fiting, replace with new fitting D. Refer to Section 5-15-35, Supplemental inspection Number 57-10-06, for specific instructions. ACCESS AND DETECTABLE CRACK SIZE ACCESSILOCATION DETECTABLE CRACK SIZE wing 0.080 Inch INSPECTION METHOD Bolt Hole and Surface Eddy Current REPAIR/MODIFICATION Comply with applicable Service Bulletins, Service Letters and/or Service Kits from Cessna Aircraft Company, Replace corroded or cracked fitings. It is permissible to repair by blending out up to ten percent of the spar cap thickness to remove corrosion. Refer to the Maintenance Manual for approved corrosion removal procedures. Repair of corrosion greater than ten percent of the spar cap thickness should be coordinated prior to beginning the repair with Cessna Propoller Aircraft Product Support COMMENTS Ira crack is detected, or corrosion greater than ten percent of the spar cap thickness is discovered, contact Cessna Propeller Aircraft Product Support. 5-14-35 Page 1 (© Cessna Aircraft Company ‘Jan 3/2005 CESSNA AIRCRAFT COMPANY MODEL 310R MAINTENANCE MANUAL ‘SUPPLEMENTAL INSPECTION NUMBER: 57-10-05 4. Perform Inspection. (1) "Surface eddy current inspect around the fasteners. Inspect the forward spar cap radius, and aft Spar cap radius for a distance of 7 inches inboard from the attach point. Surface eddy current inspect the free edges of the attach fitting. Refer to Figure 1 (2) Bolt hole eddy current inspect al the holes common to the spar and fuselage frame, which wore pened for the removal of the attach fitting. Bolt hole eddy current inspect the holes in the attach fiting. inspect the entire depth and circumference of each hole. Refer to Figure 1. (3) _If'no cracks are found, install new bolts in the spar caps and attach fitings.. (4) Cracks detected during this inspection shall be reported to Cossna Propeller Aircraft Product Support, along with the hole diameter, location of hole, hole edge distance, and the approximate length and depth of the crack. Instructions for All Other Inspections (2nd thru Sth, 7th thru 10th, ete.). A. Calibration for Bolt Hole Eddy Current Probe, (1) Connect the probe to the eddy current instrument and adjust the instrument frequency to 200 kz. (2) Null the probe in the bolt hole reference standard with the probe tumed away from the calibration notch, (3) _ Adjust the lift-off deflection on the impedance plane so that it runs horizontal and goes to the left as the probe is lifted from the hole, ‘ (4) Set sensitivity by adjusting the instrument controls to obtain a signal of at least 3 major screen divisions of separation between the lift-off response and the signal from the 0.050 inch comer notch in the reference standard, B. Perform Inspection, (1) Remove the two end bots from the vertical flanges of the wing lower carry-thru rear spar cap, ‘common to the attach fitting at the inboard end of the fiting. (2) Clean the area with solvent to remove dirt, grease, oll, loose paint and other substances that might interfere with the inspection. (8) Bolt hole eddy current inspect the most inboard two holes common to the spar and fuselage frame. Inspect the entire depth and circumference of each hole. Refer to Figure 1.
