1. Purpose
A. This procedure is for the detection of cracks in the MLG outboard door bellcrank assembly.
2. General
A. This procedure is applicable to the MLG outboard door bellcrank assembly. (See table below and Fig-
ure 6-1.)
B. This inspection procedure must be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with the General
Section (Part 6) of this manual.
A. The following inspection equipment and materials can be used for the completion of this procedure.

A. Gain access to the bellcrank through the main landing gear bay.
B. Wipe inspection areas clean with a wiping cloth to remove dirt or grease. (See Figure 6-1.)
5. Calibration Procedure
A. Connect eddy current probe part number MP455-60C to instrument using the manufacturer’s recom-
mended cable.
C. Set and adjust the instrument controls as shown in the table below.
NOTE: Instrument settings shown in the table below are to be used as a reference for ease of test
set-up. Each manufacturer’s instrument and probe combination will have different phase
and gain settings necessary for optimum operation and sensitivity.
INSTRUMENT SETTINGS
Phase 133
Vertical Gain 78
Horizontal Gain 58
D. Put the eddy current probe on a notch free area of the calibration reference standard and balance
(null) impedence plane instrument and adjust controls (phase) until you achieve a horizontal lift-off sig-
nal. (See Figures 6-2 and 6-3.)
E. Move probe across calibration reference standard 0.040” EDM notch and view instrument display.
Adjust instrument controls (gain and phase) to achieve a full screen height signal. (See Figures 6-2
and 6-4.)

NONDESTRUCTIVE INSPECTION MANUAL
A. Put the probe on the bellcrank assembly adjacent to area of inspection.(See Figure 6-1.)
B. Null (balance) instrument and adjust instrument phase controls as needed to achieve a lift-off signal to
that achieved in the calibration procedure. (See Figure 6-3.)
C. Inspect the inside radius of the inboard lug of the bellcrank. (See Figure 6-1.) Make a series of parallel
scans through the radius, while maintaining the probe perpendicular to the surface at all times until the
entire radius is inspected. Use a scan index no greater than the probe diameter between scans. Moni-
tor the CRT display carefully at all times and make note of all distinct indications.
D. Report all verifiable crack indications by recording part name, part number, and exact location of crack.
7. Acceptance/Rejection Criteria
A. All repeatable and verifiable crack indications are cause for rejection.
