6. George Canseco, (1934-2004)


Was considered a "nationally acclaimed composer of
numerous Filipino clasics". He composed songs for Filipino singers
and movie stars.

His Compositions:

7. Angel Pena, (1921-2014)


A classical and Jazz composer, musical arranger and bass
player. He is widely considered by modern Filipino jass musicians as
"one of the founders of traditional jazz in the Philippines.

Bagbagtulambing, Igorot Rhapsody, Concerto for Double Bass and
Orchestra Concerto for Jazz, Quartet and Orchestra

MEDIA-BASED ARTS AND DESIGN IN THE PHILIPPINES


(COMIC BOOKS)
Another field of print media that highlights the artistic gifts of Filipinos is that of Comic books, or
Komics as they referred to locally.The popularity of Philippine comics began in the 1920’s when Liwayway
magazine started featuring comic strips, such as Mga Kabalbalan ni Kenkoy (The Misadventures of Kenkoy)
created by Tony Velasquez as recognized as the “Father of Filipino Comics. Local comics were clearly
influenced by popular US comics with superheroes as the main characters in local counterparts such as
Darna and Captain Barbell.
Comic book, bound collection of comic strips, usually in chronological sequence, typically telling a single story
or a series of different stories.

Majority of the Filipino public, comics became a major form of reading material around the country,
avidly read and shared by young and old alike.

● UNDP Quick wins are actions that can be immediately used within the community.

Examples of QUICK WINS


1. No school fees and free access to educational materials and facilities in schools to ensure that all
children attend classes. This eliminates poor families’ concept that education is only for those who
can afford it”. Finances can include donor assistance from partnership with private group.
2. Children are provided with the free school meals and take home rations using locally produced food
