This Self- Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear learners,
can continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions,
directions, exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to
understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-
step as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.
Pre- tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each
SLM. This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if
you need to ask your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better
understanding of the lesson. At the end of each module, you need to answer
the post-test to self- check your learning. Answer keys are provided for each
activity. We trust that you will be honest in answering this SLM.
In addition to the materials in the main text, notes to the teacher are also
provided to our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how
they can best guide you in answering and understanding the activities.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part
of it. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the provided activities. Read
the instructions carefully before answering each task.
Thank You.

This module was designed and written for the learners. It will serve as
a guide in order to understand the lesson about solving right triangle using
trigonometric ratios.
After going through this module, you are expected to solve right triangle using
trigonometric ratios (M9GEIVe-1)
What I Know
Directions: Choose the letter of the correct answer. Write your answers on a
separate sheet of paper.
For items 1-2, Triangle ACB is right- angled at C. If ∠A= 610 and a= 10 cm
For items 3-5, Refer your answer in the given right triangle below:

What is It
A. Solving a Right Triangle Given the Length of the Hypotenuse and the
Length of One Leg
Illustrative Example:
Triangle BCA is right- angled at C. If c= 25 cm and b= 21 cm, find the measure
of ∠A, ∠B and length of side a.
Solution:
Draw a right triangle and enter the given data in the figure.
B
a c= 25 cm
C b= 21 cm A
Remember:
We will use the convention that angles are symbolized by capital letters, while
the side opposite each angle will carry the same letter symbol, in lowercase.
cos A =
𝑏 Use cosine ratio or CAH since b is the adjacent
𝑐 side of ∠A and c is the hypotenuse of the right
triangle BCA.
5
cos A =
21 Substitute the value of b and c
25
∠A= cos-1 0.84 Find the value of cos-1 0.84 using scientific
calculator.
∠A = 32.860 The measure of ∠A is now equal to 32.860
B. Solving a Right Triangle Given the Length of the Hypotenuse and the
Measure of One Acute Angle
Illustrative Example:
Triangle BCA is right- angled at C. If c= 33cm and ∠A = 480, find the measure
of ∠B and the length of sides a and b.
6
Solution:
Draw a right triangle and enter the given data in the figure.
B
a c= 33 cm
480
C b A
cos A =
𝑏 Use cosine ratio or CAH since b is the adjacent
𝑐 side of ∠A and c is the hypotenuse of the right
triangle BCA.
7
cos 480=
𝑏 Substitute the value of ∠A and c
33
C. Solving a Right Triangle Given the Length of the Leg and the Measure
of One Acute Angle
Illustrative Example:
Triangle ACB is right- angled at C. If ∠A = 590 and a= 9cm, find the measure
of ∠B and the length of sides b and c.
Solution:
Draw a right triangle and enter the given data in the figure.
A
590
b c
C a = 9cm B
8
tan 590 =
9 Substitute the value of ∠A and a.
𝑏
b= 5.41 cm
The length of side b is now equal to 5.41 cm
Answer: Therefore, b = 5.41 cm.
c. Finding the length of side c.
𝑎 Use sine ratio or SOH since a is the opposite side
sin A =
𝑐 of ∠A and c is the hypotenuse of the right
triangle ACB.
sin 590=
9 Substitute the value of ∠A and a.
𝑐
Triangle ACB is right- angled at C. If a= 21.5 cm and b= 17.3 cm, find the
length of side c and measure of ∠A and ∠B.
Solution:
Draw a right triangle and enter the given data in the figure.
A
b= 17.3 cm c
C a = 21.5 cm B
9
a. Finding the length of side c.
c2 = a2 + b2 Use Pythagorean Theorem
tan A=
21.5 Substitute the value of a and b.
