Form is the overall structure and organization of music. It refers to the manner in which
musical ideas are put together.
A musical phrase is musical line or musical idea that expresses a musical thought.
Musical ideas may be in repetition, contrast, or variation.
The Simple Musical Form:
1. Binary – a piece of music divided into two main sections. It is also called AB form or
two-part form. The first part is called A while the second contrasting section is called B.
Examples of the songs in Binary forms are Paru-parong Bukid, Bayan Ko, Auld Lang
Syne, Row your Boat, Kay Liit ng Mundo, Santa Clara.
Sing the song Row Your Boat and identify the two main sections: The A section and the
B section. Notice that these sections are contrasting sections.
