A. Motivation
Show pictures of patterns of building.

Picture 1

What kind of building do you see in the picture? What can you say about its
structural design?
Picture 2

Based on the pictures shown, can you tell me its differences?

Have you noticed the repetitions on the structures or designs?

B. Presenting instances of the new lesson (through PowerPoint Presentation)

You see, buildings have patterns. Buildings have sections. These sections can create
unity and harmony. It is the same in music. Music has an important element too that we
called form. Musical form is described as the structure of a piece of music or how a piece
of music is put together. Let’s listen to this song as I am going to play.

(Let them listen a song “Shoo fly, don’t bother me!” with lyrics on the PowerPoint.)

Ask questions: What can you say about the song? How many sections do you think the
song has?

Let’s listen again to the song and let’s identify how many sections do the song has.

One of the important elements in art is form. It is the same in music. Each musical
composition has its own form or structure. FORM in music is the structural organization
of musical elements to achieve outmost symmetry and balance. Musicians identify these
musical forms as binary, ternary, and rondo. (Present this through PowerPoint).

1. Binary Form has musical sections that are labeled as A and B.

Usually section A begins in a tonic chord modulates to a dominant chord
progression which is called section B.
Example: Paru-parong Bukid

2. Ternary Form is a musical composition utilizes a three-part form ABA or

ABC. The music begins with section A which is the initial statement
followed by section B which is the contrasting element back to section A
which ends the composition in its original key which provides the
unifying component.

Example: ABA – Swing Low, Sweet Chariot

ABC – Lupang Hinirang

3. Rondo Form usually follows a general plan that may be characterized by

the sequence A-B-A-C-A. Section A is often referred to as “refrain” or
“rondo”. It has contrasting sections in between repetitions of the A
section (ABACA).
Example: Maligayang Araw

C. Developing Mastery.

Let learners identify the different forms (BINARY, TERNARY, RONDO) of the
following musical scores. (Teacher plays the music on the piano).

1. It’s a Small World After All

2. Tinikling
3. Greensleeves
4. Play Song

D. Generalization

Ask questions:
1. What are the 3 musical forms?
2. Which form has 2 sections? Which one is called ABACA?
3. Is form in music important? Why?

IV. Evaluation:
