I. PROPOSED RESEARCH TITLE

A. Research Problem 1: How to improve effective detection and monitoring of COVID-19 in Children below 18
years old in Baguio City?

a. Title: Effective COVID-19 Detection in Children within Baguio City

b. Objectives:
1. The study shall be determining the effective assessment techniques in identifying COVID-19 in
adults and how can it be applied in children.
2. The study will gather data regarding COVID-19 incidence rates in Children within the city and
compare first symptoms that appear between children and adults.
3. The study will aim to focus on improving COVID-19 monitoring in Children within the locality
of Baguio City.

c. Statement of the problem:

1. What are the assessment techniques in determining COVID-19 between children under 18 years
old and older adults above 21 years old within the locality?
2. How are incidence rates in children under 18 years old in Baguio City being determined and
monitored?
3. The most effective assessment technique in detecting COVID-19 in adults ages above 21 years
old used by major hospitals in the area like Baguio General Hospital that can be applied in
detecting the said virus in children under 18 years of age?

d. Who/what/where will be your study participants/study subjects and justify it why?

 The study will target children below 18 years of age in Baguio City as there is an increase failure to
report incidence rates with the said age group due to failure of early detection of the disease locally,
nationally and globally. Using articles to provide data regarding effective detection of the disease in
adults will benefit the evaluation of what techniques can be applied and was not applied in children.
We have selected the locality of Baguio to represent the whole population group as it is more
convenient for us researchers and Baguio City have been determined to have the most effective
detection and disease tracing method in our country.

e. Base on the above and base on the Ethical standards or principles for Nursing Research, what will
be the expected risks and benefit for your participants/study subjects?
 As researchers, we would have to inquire permission or consent from the child’s parents or guardians
before any gathering procedure. The study is not mandatory thus participation is upon the choice of
the parent’s respondent. We would also likely have to ask consent of the head of the COVID-19
response team in the target hospital regarding provision of information disclosed to COVID-19
detection. The expected benefits for the participant/ study subject is that the children within the age
group of 18 years and below will be able to know signs and symptoms they need to notify their
parents or guardians if not, the parents or guardians themselves could identify it immediately. This
study will also help parents or guardians to be at alert of what to watch out for especially in children
that cannot express themselves well. In addition, this will help medical practitioners also know/have
more ways on how to effectively detect covid-19 in this age group. The study will also help the
participant know steps to take or things to do to keep them healthy. The risk to be expected by
children in this age group is fear on how would they react to the assessment procedure they will be
undergoing. If any of the stated signs or symptoms occurs, some might be scared with the thought of
dying or going through medical procedures and treatment. In addition, the fear of not seeing their
friends and family might occur to them and affect their mental wellbeing if placed into isolation.

B. Research Problem 2: How does COVID-19 mentally impacts the student nurses who enrolled in the
University of Cordilleras amidst the pandemic?

a. Title: Coronavirus Disease 19: Impact to the student nurses of the University of the Cordilleras

b. Objective: The research study aims tot identify the impact of the COVID-19 or the current pandemic to
the student nurses of the University of the Cordilleras.

c. Statement of the Problem:

1. What are the effects or common problems encountered by the nursing students on COVID-19
pandemic?
2. What are the changes and adjustments happened during the outbreak?
3. The number of student nurses who enrolled during the pandemic in the University of the
Cordilleras.

d. Who/what/where will be your study participants/study subjects and justify it why?

 The respondents in our study are the student nurses of the University of the Cordilleras from 1 st year
to 4th year who enrolled at the current time of pandemic wherein it will be conducted from the
university itself. We conducted the title, “the impact of the COVID-19 to the student nurses of the
University of the Cordilleras” for the reason that it is relevant to us and to the other students as well.
According to the criteria, the research needs to be relevant to the needs of the subjects and the
researchers, besides this is also useful and easily allows the people to identify the impacts to student
nurses of the University of the Cordilleras. Lastly, this is also effective to the professors for them to
know the adjustments and challenges faced by their students.

e. Base on the above and base on the Ethical standards or principles for Nursing Research, what will
be the expected risks and benefit for your participants/study subjects?

 First and foremost, we will ask for the permission or consent of our respondents. During the
conduction of the study the participants are free to choose if he or she wants to volunteer or withdraw
from being a subject. They are allowed to ask information and be informed about the research. Also,
it is optional for them to write their name on the given sheet of paper as a tool to get their opinions.
As a nurse researcher, it is our obligation to provide comfort to minimize the harm that may happen
while conducting the study. All of these are beneficial for us to get the rightful information we need
and to avoid manipulation of the data and distortion of results.

C. Research Problem 3: What are the factors affecting the effectivity of steam inhalation therapy considered as
a primary remedy in respiratory illnesses?

a. Title: The efficacy of Steam Inhalation Therapy in the Early Symptoms of Respiratory Illnesses

b. Objective: To determine and investigate the effectiveness and the efficacy of this Steam Inhalation
Therapy and to provide knowledge to the society to be aware on an early remedy of any respiratory
illnesses but not recommendable to persisted signs and symptoms and to reduce the cost of medication
and treatment

c. Statement of the Problem:

1. What is the rate of effectiveness in steam inhalation therapy in the early symptoms of
respiratory illness?
2. What are the are the factors and benefits of steam inhalation therapy in the early symptoms of
respiratory illness?
3. Which is better way to combat primary respiratory illness symptoms, taking synthetic drugs
(OTC) or doing the steam Inhalation Therapy?
d. Who/what/where will be your study participants/study subjects and justify it why?
 Who: all ages experiencing respiratory Illness except toddlers
 What: effectiveness of Steam Inhalation Therapy as Primary Remedy for Respiratory illness
Where: Community of Baguio
 Why: because in today's situation (Corona virus pandemic) and the in avoidance of climate
change effect where Respiratory system is the target point, Primary remedies should be
disseminated.

e. Base on the above and base on the Ethical standards or principles for Nursing Research, what will
be the expected risks and benefit for your participants/study subjects?
 The expected risks for our participants is the low assurance of accommodation for them due
to the present situation and the risk of wasted time from them for we need at list an hour to
gather information and lastly, benefit for our participants is they will be considered as a part
of a successful outcome and simple tribute will be given to them.
