INTRODUCTION
This study intends to gain knowledge further about
nursing students' experiences with mental wellness
and how they were coping with the impact of
COVID-19. This study highlighted the need of
acknowledging the recurring, collective trauma that
BSN students have been subjected to as a result of
the pandemic. In the future, nursing education will
need to use a trauma-informed approach in which
constructive coping is modeled and a secure
learning environment is offered.

INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
 With a global epidemic that has disturbed and destroyed daily life all over the
world in the last two years, the world has faced many difficult challenges.

 Furthermore, these students might experience social isolation, individual virus

outbreak illness, childcare or relationship disturbances, or other difficulties
that could add stress and have an adverse effect on their mental health.

 University students commonly encounter acute psychological stress as they

adapt to a new learning environment, but unrestrained and chronic stress, like
that brought on by the COVID 19 outbreak, negatively affects nursing students'
physical and mental health as well as their academic performance.

 The purpose of this study was to learn more about nursing students'
experiences with mental wellbeing and how they were adapting to the
repercussions of COVID-19.

INTRODUCTION
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This research intends to decipher the mental struggles and coping
mechanisms of BSN students during the pandemic outbreak. With the
help of the BSN students of University of Mindanao, it sought to
answer the following questions:

 How does the new normal system of education affect BSN students' physical
and mental health?

 What are the risks that BSN Students encounter on their daily basis amidst the
COVID-19 crisis?

 What are the effects of the unanticipated return of face-to-face classes to BSN
students?

 What can be the best coping mechanisms for BSN students in the midst of the
unrestrained virus?

nursing education institutions as these institutions deal with this
unprecedented challenge.

INTRODUCTION
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The study will be a great help to the following groups and individuals:

College Instructors
 The result of this study would be able to help College Instructors better
understand the impact that mental illness can have on a medical student’s
life, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown. Furthermore, the study will
help inform College Instructors regarding the signs and symptoms that
their students may feel as mental health can affect the performance and
success of their students.

Medical Course Students

 The result of this study will help the students aid them in identifying early
indications and risk of mental illness. In addition, the study may be able to
lessen the stigma associated with mental illness that medical students
experience.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing Students

 The result of this study will be able to help Nursing students

address their mental health issues to provide a good mental health
amongst their patients. For the purpose of avoiding issues and
supporting patients who could be dealing with a mental disease, it
is the duty of all nurses to advance mental wellness.
METHODS
RESEARCH DESIGN
The researchers used a descriptive research design (a theory-based
design method which is created by gathering, analyzing, and
presenting collected data) to depict the participants in an accurate
way and have conducted a survey that would gather relevant data.

Qualitative research is defined as a market research method that

focuses on obtaining data through open-ended and conversational
communication. Qualitative research is concerned with the
subjective meaning of an experience to an individual, and can be
used to generate hypotheses and theory from the data.
Research Method/Approach

Case Study Research

A case study is another example of qualitative research that involves a
comprehensive examination of a particular subject, person, or event. This
method is used to obtain in-depth data and complete knowledge of the subject.
The data is collected from various sources like interviews and observation to
supplement the conclusion. This qualitative approach is extensively used in the
field of social sciences, law, business, and health.
METHODS
RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS
The research will be conducted at the University of Mindanao specifically in the
College of Health and Sciences department. The respondents of this study are the
