Cockpit preparation
In the Airbus documentation, the cockpit preparation is conducted by the PF, while the PM is doing the walk-
around. In Speedy Copilot for ToLiSs, we can switch roles and ask the PM to complete all items assigned by
Airbus to the PF in the task sharing. This is possibly done on the real aircraft as well.
The PF (the human user in X-Plane, but it can be done by Speedy Copilot if you wish), on the overhead will
scan for white lights OFF, execute the CVR and ground control switch items, put the ADIRS to NAV, the
external lights and signs, the probe and window heat, the pack flow, test the engine fire loops, electrical
and maintenance panel. On the center instrument panel, he should check the ISIS, click, A/SKID and nose
wheel steering switches. On the pedestal, the ACP and RMP are then set, and all engine & thrust related
levers and selectors are checked for idle, OFF or normal. The ATC is set to standby. The PF continues with the
FMS preparation. Later, when both pilots are seated, the PF will set the instruments panel for navigation
(set barometric reference and crosscheck, FD/LS, ND, VOR/ADF, and finally the FCU). The PF then tests the
oxygen masks, the ECAM (landing elevation is AUTO, ECAM STATUS).
The PF concludes by checking the FOB. The conversational departure briefing follows with the PM.
After the walk-around, the PM (Speedy Copilot) sets his navigation instrument in accordance with the PF, tests
his oxygen masks, IRS alignment, and FOB which he crosschecks with the other crew member. When ready, the
PM completes the conversational departure briefing in cooperation.
• Pushback operation
The pushback clearance is normally obtained by the PM.
The PF (the human user in X-Plane) verifies the display of the nose wheel steering disconnection memo and
takes double care of the parking brake operation and annunciation during the whole operation.
Engine start
After start
After the engines start, the PF (the human user in X-Plane) restores the ENG MODE selector to NORM and
ENG DUAL COOLING to OFF, deals with APU BLEED and APU, evaluates the need for wing anti-ice, checks the
ECAM STATUS and the N/W steering to be not displayed any more on the ECAM. The PF ends by announcing
« Clear to disconnect ».
The PM (Speedy Copilot) arms the ground spoilers, checks that the rudder trim is zero, flaps set, pitch trim
set, and ECAM STATUS.
Execute the after start checklist
(TRIGGER : hand signal from the ground team.)
Taxi
The PM (Speedy Copilot) does the following actions :

In the mean time, once the taxi clearance is obtained by the PM, the PF will set the exterior lights (the nose
light ON in particular), release the parking brake and check the brakes then flight controls. Both crew
members confirm the departure briefing. The PF set the terrain mode on his ND as required and wait to
receive the cabin report. Both CM run the taxi checklist.
Before takeoff
Once the PM has obtained line-up clearance, the PF (the human user) will confirm the takeoff runway and
intersection, collaboratively check the approach path clear of traffic, set the exterior lights for takeoff*,
stow all unmounted equipment and sliding table, set the thrust bump as required
The PM (Speedy Copilot) checks brake temperature (and turn off the fans). He obtains the line-up clearance,
and set accordingly the Packs (« ON », « ON supplied by APU » or « OFF »), the TCAS, the ENG MODE selector.
After stowing the table and everything not mounted, he advises the cabin crew in the back.
*Note : in the new (2021) Airbus operating procedures, setting the exterior lights for takeoff has been moved
to a PF item.
Takeoff
The PF (the human user) will set the exterior lights, announce the takeoff and advance the levers to 50 % of
thrust. He releases the brakes to engage the take off thrust (FLEX or TOGA).
The Captain places hand on thrust levers until V1.
The PF will crosscheck 100 kts IAS and perform the rotation at VR. When the positive climb is called by the
other crew member, he orders gear up, and wait for the thurst reduction altitude to retard the thrust levers
to the CL detent.

You may, as a human user behind your simulator, evaluate yourself the need for anti-ice and engine mode

Climb
During climb the PM set the flight plan page and the PF the PERF CLB page. Both CM uses FCU/FMGS as
required if AP is not used and set BAROMETRIC REFERENCE to STANDARD at the transition altitude (and
crosscheck).
The PM specifically turns off the seat belts sign, checks ECAM memo and clears Navaids. He use the secondary
F/P as required and verifies OPT FL/REC MAX FL.
Note : Speedy Copilot does not check ECAM memo nor clears navaids.
Cruise
According to Airbus task sharing, the PM attributions in flight are :
ECAM MEMO/SD PAGES.............................REVIEW
FLIGHT PROGRESS................................... CHECK
FUEL........................................................MONITOR
NAVIGATION ACCURACY...........................MONITOR
PF : the does the same things as the PM, and on top of them adjust the weather radar as required.
In Speedy Copilot for ToLiSs, the cruise phase activity is fully let at the user discretion. Speedy Copilot does
not intervene at all in cruise, and will be back for the descent phase only.
Descent preparation
The PM starts by obtaining the weather at destination. The goal is to confirm landing conditions. He does
that while preparing his navigation chart clipboard and checking the aircraft status page*.
* Indeed, the landing conditions assessment is depending at least, but not exclusively, on a combination of
the local weather, the aircraft condition, the intended landing runway and airport layout. Other factors such
as the crew qualifications or the GNSS augmentation availability may interfere.
Then the PM computes the landing data, crosschecks it with the PF calculation and crosschecks the PF FMS
preparation. As required he will set the GPWS for flaps 3 and anti-ice.
The PM obtains the descent clearance.
The PF filters the appropriate navigation charts and confirms the landing conditions prepared by the PM
and computes the landing perf data to crosscheck it. Then the PF is the one to prepare the FMS, check
landing elevation, set autobrake and weather radar. He sets the cleared altitude on the FCU once the PM has
the descent clearance.
During the descent preparation procedure, an arrival briefing is collaboratively led, after the aircraft and
performance data are prepared and before the top of descent.
In Speedy Copilot for ToLiSs, adaptations are necessary with regard to this real task sharing. Speedy tries to
incorporate some destination weather information in the PERF APPR page of the CM2 MCDU at the top of
descent, if the fields are still blank at this point. That’s the best we can try. Only the human user can really do
the brain work. The human user has to prepare the descent and arrival by retrieving and integrating all the
data to elaborate the landing picture. Also the user will set GPWS landing flaps 3 (instead of the PM), so that
Speedy Copilot can use this information as a trigger to deploy CONF 3, and not CONF FULL, later in approach.
Descent
During the descent, the PM monitors the F-PLN page of his MCDU, sets the TERR as required and the
barometric reference. At 10 000 feet AAL, while sterile cockpit begins, he sets the landing lights, displays the
constraints on its navigation display and uses ‘LS’ as required.
The PF initiates and adjusts the descent. He sets the baro ref. At 10 000 feet AAL, he displays the constraints
on its navigation display and uses ‘LS’ as required. He possibly configures the navaids and monitors the
navigation accuracy.
When both are done, they call the next checklist.
Approach
In summary, the PM deploys the flaps in sequence upon the PF order. (The PF may request that the speed
target is set along by the PM depending on the situation). The PM checks autobrake and arms the ground
spoilers, sets the exterior lights, verifies A/THR, Ecam memo & cabin report, monitors the flight parameters.
During the initial approach, the PF adjusts the F-PLN sequencing. This is of prime importance if tactical
events make the flight path deviate from the initial arrival plan saved into the FMGS.
The PF flies the aircraft and order the flaps extension sequence. The PF is in charge of the weather radar.
The Approach flow is concluded by the landing checklist.
Note : the approach flow shows some variations depending of the nature of the approach conducted, either
3D or 2D ; 2D with CDFA or not. Please consult Getting to grips with approach minima, for more.
Go around
In case of Go Around Speedy Copilot for ToLiSs will detect it. The Copilot will automatically be rebooted at the
takeoff procedure step. You may later have to manually re-arm the copilot in the approach mind, using the
main Speedy Copilot menu.
Landing
During the landing, the PM is in charge of
ATTITUDE ..........................................MONITOR
GND SPLRS ....................................... CHECK/ANNOUNCE
REVERSERS ...................................... CHECK/ANNOUNCE
DECELERATION........................... CHECK/ANNOUNCE
SEVENTY KNOTS ..............................ANNOUNCE
The PF is in charge of the reversers levers as required (to be idle at 70 kts, and stored when reaching taxi
speed). He must disarm the autobrake before 20 kts, Airbus documentation states.
After landing
The PF (the user) signals the after landing procedure by first disarming the ground spoilers when this is
appropriate (for instance after having vacated all the active runways crossed on the taxi-in route). He then
sets the exteriors lights and waits for the PM actions before asking for the After Landing checklist.
Below is the PM (Speedy Copilot) after landing pattern :
RADAR.................................OFF
PREDICTI VE WINDSHEAR...OFF
ENG MONDE SEL……………..NORM
FLAPS ........................................RETRACT
TCAS..................................STBY
ATC...................................AS RQRD
We switch from TA/RA (i.e. TCAS ON, TXPR ON) to XPDR (TCAS OFF, XPDR ON) after landing. This is
maintained to the parking position and then as part of the shutdown checks we set 1000 and STBY.
Leaving the XPDR ON with assigned squawk means we display our callsign to ATC ground movement radar
while taxiing. Setting 1000 apparently sets the transponder to display aircraft registration. Source
APU.............................................START
ANTI ICE .....................................AS RQRD

Parking
The PF (the user) checks the brake accumulator pressure to set the parking brake. He shuts down all engines
using the master levers. He handles the beacon and wing lights. The PF checks the slides disarmed and put
the seat belt sign to OFF.
In the mean time the PM turns OFF the anti-ice and ensure APU provides bleed air.
