Datu - is the title which is denotes the rulers ( variously described in historical accounts as
chiefs, sovereign princess and monarch) of numerous indigenous peoples throughout the
philippines archipelago.

- Datu is from malayan people in present are called thailand.

- It is also known as maginoo.

- Barangay that is ruled by datu is throughout Luzon, Visayas and portion of Mindanao.

- Datu is from the malay word " Datu / Datuk" means marangal na tao o may dugong
mahal.

Characteristics of Datu

* Bravery by displaying of his prowess and valor in battle

* Intelligence

* Inheritance and wealth

* Also by proving his leadership skill or other traits useful for barangay survival.

How wealth described in pre-colonial

- number of gold owned and family gold.

- having a large portion of land in the barangay.

Maharlika - They are the one who help Datu to Implement peace and order of the barangay.

Bagani - the best fighters of barangay and from the maharlika.

Dayang o Lakambini - this is called to the wife of datu

Gold - the sign of having high status in society.

Gat and Lakan - this is to show the respect to datu or maginoo.
