RIZAL LAW

MODULE 1

“Q” TITLE IN LMS

QUESTIONS:

 Why do we need to study the life and writings of Rizal?

      What is the relevance of the Rizal course in our contemporary era?

       Are you in favor of Rizal Law? Yes or No. Why?

1: According to the Rizal Law, enacted in 1956, we need to study the life and writings of Rizal to
rededicate the lives of youth to the ideals of freedom and nationalism, for which our heroes lived and
died and to pay tribute to our national hero for devoting his life and works in shaping the Filipino
character. And as a Filipino student, I am inspired by his life and his writings, which gave me the courage
to do good things just like our national hero.

2: The Rizal course is a minor course but the student won't be able to graduate without taking and
passing this subject. However, maybe some could say that this course isn't really helpful in their career
or profession once they graduate but the essence of the course doesn't fall on the idea of being useless
and just a waste of time instead the course provides the thoughts, ideals of freedom and nationalism, in
shaping Filipino character, principles or convictions and these all could be very influential to Filipino's life
as a basis of getting strength in their day to day existence. Additionally, the teachings of the culture of
the Filipinos, and its political, economic, and social affairs in the past can help relate to the present
conditions and situations in society. In that way, our critical thinking would be developed more.

3: I am in favor of the mentioned course, there is no doubt although some organizations are against it
like catholic churches/religions are against passing this course because the teachings of Rizal's writings
are somehow said to be not good in terms of spiritual intellect but there are also some points in which
amendments were made in terms of educating the students, particularly in skipping some ideas that
provoke the teachings of the Church. So, I also agreed with the amendments and am in favor of the Rizal
law simply because of the course goal: "To rededicate the lives of youth to the ideals of freedom and
nationalism, for which our heroes lived and died. To pay tribute to our national hero for devoting his life
and works to shape the Filipino character."

The ideas above in answering the question were self-constructed and guided by the presented module

 What is the significance of the following to the life of the Filipinos today?

1. One peso Coin

2.   Rizal Monument

3. Celebration of the Death of Rizal

1. The one-peso coin doesn't only symbolize its value as a material thing used for trading for it is beyond
that, if we look at it, it reminds us of how bold our national hero is, how nationalistic he is, and mostly
how he saved his countrymen in chaos. Therefore, Filipinos must give value to a one-peso coin not just
because of its use for trading but also because it reminds us of our history and victory.

2. It serves as a tribute to all Filipinos. The significance however tells how this great man accepted his
fate as a glorious opportunity to offer his life to his sad, beloved country and It gives us courage and
determination to also treasure and give value to our beloved country.  Additionally, the Rizal monument
emphasizes tribute to our national hero for devoting his life and works to shape the Filipino character,
this monument of Rizal reminds us of his determination and strength for it defines and puts up to a
nation's freedom and order. This great man contributes to a nation's quality of life.

3. This is to commemorate their life and works also his nationalism and martyrdom of Rizal. It is
significant to us simply because of its impact on Philippine History for he struggled for freedom from
Spanish rule and his contribution paves the way to our victory and of peace.

 Considering the plight of the teenagers today, do you consider that Rizal Course is still relevant ?
Defend your answer.

Yes, only the acceptance of the student matters, some will not accept this for what they know is that the
course won't be useful for their profession and just a waste of time but for me it is relevant, the main
objectives and goals of this course simply define how important it is in today's situation and for the
future and it is undoubtful to say that this is not relevant, for history will always be part of our present
and this course will sustain its value in every generation.  To defend my claim of the Rizal course is
relevant in today's situation, I will simply put it this way, the course is full of knowledge about strong
dedication and courage discussed by the life and works of Rizal which are useful to motivate ourselves
to always show respect and honor our country. Additionally, the course serves as a guide for the culture
of the Filipinos, and its political, economic, and social affairs for there are some instances in the past
where it can help relate to the present conditions and situations in society and as a result, the students
can also gain an inspiring source of patriotism through the study of Rizal’s life, works, and writings.
